The accommodation overall is fine, but I find it wildly over priced for what you receive. I would be completely happy to pay R600 for a “luxury” chalet per night, not the crazy R1220 (off peak). For this price I expect a breakfast to be included at the very least...
Few reasons why I say this... the bathrooms which have been beautifully redone (with no shower doors) soak the entire bathroom, leaving anything you accidentally left inside wet. The bedding is fine, however so old and outdated, not the most comfortable. The electric blankets don’t work and nor do most of the power sockets in the bedroom. They have not catered in anyway for people passing through who don’t have their own items such as hair dryers or just a small cup of milk for your morning coffee.
I am also a huge animal lover, however I found the number of stray cats which appeared alarming. Clearly they are not being taken care of and left to roam the bushes, this is heartbreaking to see on your stop. They should be prevented from breading further and this can be addressed by their local SPCA.
Overall it is “OK” but nowhere near justifies its price, compared with many other places we have stayed on our tour across the country at the same price. The scenery does not make up for the lack in...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to the Gariep, A Forever Resort, we stayed in a 6 sleeper chalet. Although the decor felt a bit dated, the chalet was spacious with 3 bedrooms (one downstairs). The chalet also featured a shared lounge area with a DSTV connected TV and a fully equipped kitchen. Despite the decor, you can see the resort is slowly in the process of modernizing appliances, which is a positive sign. Beyond our chalet, Gariep offers a wide range of other accommodation options catering for different budgets, including camping. Most accommodation types I saw were positioned to take advantage of the beautiful views of the Gariep Dam. During our stay, we also visited the pool area, which was closed during winter. The pool is quite large, with a nice kids' play area and even tennis courts. To top it off, if you aren't in the mood to cook, you can visit the Quenna Bistro restaurant (reviewed separately) at the resort's entrance gate. Overall, if you're looking for accommodation close to Colesburg, Gariep, A Forever Resort is definitely worth...
Read moreNo! We arrived and our booking was mixed up, we had to pay in. Camping sites is not allocated and we need to “look” for one. Mission and a half as some campers took more than one. Camp sites is more sand than anything else and if you don’t go and use the bathrooms at almost in the middle of the day, we found that it wasn’t properly cleaned. There was always someone to clean it, but as a result of low maintenance the showers mess a lot and cleaning is difficult for the staff. Kiosk close very early in holidays and the there is no shaded swimming pools. The pools are very dirty. The baths are not child friendly and my daughter slipped and cut her eye open. I must compliment the staff here as they immediately contacted the medical staff member on site and he was there within minutes. Thank you for the quick assistance here. Several upgrades are necessary to this resort. Shaded pool for kids are required and proper entertainment for children and toddlers is required. We won’t...
