I got to the hotel at about 17H30, They started checking me in, after checking the system the lady behind the desk tells me “sorry your Company hasn’t paid so I can’t check you in”. I’m in Mafikeng close to the Botswana border, about 4hrs drive from my home and they telling me they can’t assist.

I show them the attached voucher that clearly states “Bill back to company as per special instruction”, she takes it to the reservations manager who tells her they don’t have an account with my company so no, they can’t help I need to pay or they can't help. Nowhere did they try to phone the travel agency or any of the contact details of the voucher. The reservations manager didn't even have the decency to come out of her office to speak to me herself.

I had to eventually pay with my personal Mastercard for them to check me in and have somewhere safe to sleep. She charged me the full amount for dinner, I asked her but what if I don’t use the full amount, she replied by saying well you just have to claim it back from the company. After payment went through she starts booking me in and then mentions “oh I see they booked you for 2 DBL beds, do you need it or can I change” I was shocked and at the same time furious as she just made me pay the rate for 2 dbl beds and after payment is received now she wants to change. The room also did not have a mini fridge as per the voucher.

After a long days travelling and recruitment of staff this is the absolute last thing you want to encounter being exhausted and in an unfamiliar town.

The next day om my way back to Pretoria I get a call saying that they see I paid for myself and that wasn't necessary at all, I need to come back and fetch my money!!!

Pathetic service by staff with no customer satisfaction orientated mindset.

Never staying at that...

My recent stay at Protea Hotel Mahikeng was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The hotel offers a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and top-notch service, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travelers.

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm and friendly smiles from the staff, who went out of their way to ensure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and I was quickly settled into my room, which was spacious, clean, and beautifully appointed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and the room amenities were thoughtful and well-maintained.

The hotel’s location is excellent, providing easy access to the key attractions and business areas in Mahikeng. Whether you're exploring the local area or attending meetings, the convenience is unmatched.

The on-site restaurant exceeded my expectations with its delicious and varied menu. Breakfast offered a wide selection of fresh and tasty options, setting a great tone for the day ahead. I also enjoyed a few meals at the restaurant during my stay, and each one was delightful, with attentive service and beautifully presented dishes.

Overall, my experience at Protea Hotel Mahikeng was outstanding. The combination of excellent service, comfortable accommodations, and a welcoming atmosphere made my stay memorable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Mahikeng, and I look forward to returning...

For a 4 star Hotel its kind of disappointing to say the least.

The negatives in my experience: The aircon doesn't work, 2 staff members insured me that it works but then not even they can get it working (Found that rather amusing) and its not fun sleeping in this heat with mosquitos buzzing all around you Some lights in the room didnt work, main lights worked however The Phone didn't work, couldn't call room service or reception. The security safe in the closet doesn't work, had to use a padlock to keep my bags safe. Toilet keeps on running none stop, F_cking irritating, had to stop it by turning off the water inlet tap No bar fridge in rooms Gave me an Wifi Voucher, my work is very IT based, but for the life of me I couldn't get the "Wifi" to work. And lastly, there's something in the ceiling, maybe its rats or maybe its birds, I dont know. But you can hear something moving in there. House keeping knocks once and then just walks in

On a more positive note: The food was pretty good. A "pleasing to the eye" hotel (it's kind of modern/pretty) I only had to endure one night.

To sum it up, after this first impression I definitely wont be returning. Will look for a guest house or something next time.

(And yes the food is the only reason it didn't get 1 star, I took videos as well of the safe, aircon and light not working but google reviews doesn't want to upload it tonight, maybe because I'm...

The Hotel as a whole is not that bad. Rooms: are too small and ordinary compared to other Marriott Hotels I have visited before. The staff: are the most amazing people, so friendly and welcoming. From security, reception, restaurant and house keeping. Restaurant: can use some pickup were food flavour is concerned in the adults menu. I found the fish and chicken schnitzel to taste normal. On the other hand the kids pasta was delicious. They should also get Equipments for room service. Our food almost fell on that hand tray. Housekeeping: always on time but they don't change sheets they just make the bed. Location: is a great ride when using N4. But the struggle is real around the hotel. The is potholes and the is no fine dining restaurants around, also the Mahikeng game reserve was unfound. The is no kids activities around

Received a welcome service by a guy named Lebogang at the reception desk but the bed sheets were dirty and smelly. I spoke to a lady the following morning on the 13th Jan 2021 requesting for my bed sheets to be replaced but when I got back late, I noticed that they were not changed but a certain white powder was used on the sheets which can also be visible on the palm of the hand. The smell on all the 4 pillows in my room was too unbearable I even slept without using them which was uncomfortable for me. The sheets in my room were no longer white but turned in to cream white. My stay at the hotel was not pleasant, there was no value for my money and I am so disappointed as all the Protea Hotel I slept in have the best service ever. The towel are also very old, too dry for using on the skin.
