Ratanang B&B — Hotel in Mahikeng Local Municipality

I stayed in the Ratanang B&B in Mafikeng for business. This was one of my only options for accommodation as most other places did not want to accept the company credit card. I stayed in a room at the back of the property with a colleague of mine in the only other room at the back. This gave us a nice sense of privacy. ||The room was perfectly adequate with the usual shuffle-room only around the bed. A nice touch was the bar fridge and fully operational air-conditioning as it was sweltering in January. The DSTV worked great, tea and coffee was provided and all was as it was said to be. ||Unfortunately this B&B was renovating during our stay and the pool was filled with building rubble and there were leering and inappropriate builders all over the property. There was very little natural beauty to enjoy because of all the mess they created.||The breakfast was borderline adequate, consisting of 1 or 2 fruits, some cereal and yoghurt, and then scrambled egg and a kind of meat from the freezer. ||The hosts are, however, absolutely wonderful and incredibly accommodating. I arrived in Mahikeng just before 8 in the morning, having left Pretoria around 5am. As I didn’t want to attend a business event with the luggage in the car, I requested an early check in. The friendly owner allocated a room, gave me keys and asked me to pay later. For me, that was a royal treatment. The rooms are clean, have aircon, and a comfortable bed. This place became my home for two days; it really felt like home. The owner was all the time prepared to offer any required assistance, so as to make stay as comfortable as possible. The only problem in my first morning was lack of sufficient hot water; I took a cold shower. It was however due to many guests who were there for various other events.
