Dolphin View Wild Coast Self catering — Hotel in Mbhashe Local Municipality

The gravel road from Willowvale was quite bad at places allowing you to travel between 20 and 40 km/h. So the 35 km takes about 1h15 to travel using a 4x4. It's bumpy and littered with potholes but the last 3 km are better. Arriving my first impression was I like the close proximity to the ocean and the facilities looked taken care of although it is quite rustic, every unit is comfortable fitted with everything you need. Your unit is is serviced every day (even Sundays) and the cleaners are fast. We stayed in the cheapest unit without a sea view. But laying on our bed looking through the gap in the branches of the tree you can see the sea😉. The coastline is very rocky and seems like it is well suited for fishing. There is a small piece of beach where you can go for a swim but no long stretches of sand where you can walk for hours. You definitely need a good book to read and maybe some games to keep the family entertained. We bought some gorgeous fresh fish from a local fisherman and fresh oysters were also on offer. Our host/caretaker Kevin seems very knowledgeable and eager to help. All in all this place is great value for money and lovely to relax surrounded with the crashing sounds of the neverending waves. Apart from the confusion with our booking, we had a great time at Dolphin View. Cabins were well equipped. Beds were fine, but do not expect 3 star quality. We stayed in large cottage with 3 bedrooms and our friends (family of 4) stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage. We had beautiful views of the bay. Kevin, our host (he stays at Dolphin View), was amazing. He showed the men some fishing spots, arranged for fresh oysters and mussels, the lady baked us a bread (we supplied ingredients) and they also did some laundry for us. This is unspoilt country. A real hidden little gem of a place. More than just the basics are in your cottage. The facilities in our cottage allowed us even to have a great dinner out on the deck of our cottage. The beds and bathrooms are all very clean and comfortable. Several great fishing spots are within a walk or a short drive. And all this with a view to die for.
