I was really excited to return to Misty Hills for my birthday after my previous stay there 2 years prior, also for my birthday. The previous trip was very special and I was treated very well and even spoiled. I booked a Executive suit which is a stone cottage near the reception and was assured that I would get the same excellant suit again. I was dissapointed and not for the first time||I was then placed and the far end of the row of cottages and not the one I expected.|Since my previous stay I noticed a decline in the maintenance of several aspects around the general hotel. The "suit" I was given was also in poor shape especially in the cupboards which were actually shoddy with vaneer peeling or peeled. The shower water pressure was also poor where you had to stand almost against the wall in a large shower enclosure in order to stand under the water.|Included with the hefty price of the suit was an additional breakfast of R270 which I was also looking forward to as on my previous visit the breakfast was a spectacular buffet stretching several meters of counter space. I was again dissapointed. The diningroom with the huge central fire (winter in July) was closed. The guests were put into a small dining room off the Gin Box bar and served breakfast from a limited menu that you could build yourself. I ordered just about everything on the menue which was a good thing as the portions were pathetically small. Baked beans was in a little bowl the size of a table spoon., rashers of bacon were less than half the size of Wimpy would serve. The service was also terrible where I had to keep asking for coffee and was not offered any juice until I had to call a staff member and ask.||The othe highlight I was looking forward to that was included in the price of suit was dinner and the famous Carnivor restaurant which I have been frequenting almost 30 years and thoroughly enjoyed. This was yet another disappointment. The normally large selection of game meat was about 1/3 of the uusual range and almost half of that was "game sausage" which could have been mix of meats. The service was also terrible with me having to wait almost half an hour at one stage to be served meat and when I was served, the portions cut off the spear where miniscule and overcooked. The fmaous Dawa drinks had bottled liquid honey served out of a unmarked bottle and not the raw honey that is usually served on a stick that it is balled around so you can stir the drink to dissolve it. At one stage I had to check to see if there was any honey in the drink which is when I was brought the unmarked bottle of very liquid honey. Unlike the previous birthday visit there was no special treatment. Even the reception staff where not their usual jovial selves like normal. The only awesome service and attention, even asking how my stay and visit to Carnivor was going, was the porters who were doing their very best to show the levels of service that a hotel of this presige should be offering especially to...
Read moreMy wife and I always look forward to our breaks at Misty Hills Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa. Let me start of by saying that the Carnivore Restaurant experience is second to none. Besides the variety of the exotic meats available, the service is exceptional. Welcome. Sylvester, Mr Dawa and Melody and Mandla (now promoted) always makes our experience full of memories and we will continue to visit for many years to come. This being our Wedding Anniversary weekend, it was made even more special by the Reception Staff who prepared our room so beautifully.
I cannot however say the same for the Gin Box…. On Saturday afternoon (11TH March 2023), after a relaxing visit to the Spa for treatments, we decided that the Gin Box will be our haven where we could relax , have lunch and me being an avid football fan watch a game of English Football on the telly. Alas, how I was mistaken. I approached the Gin Box manager to change the channel on the telly to English Premier League (EPL) sand I was informed that they were instructed not to change the channels and only the GM could change. I asked if he could go and arrange. He duly made his way to Reception and after some time I queried his whereabouts, and he came through and advised that the GM could not be found.
I then made my way to Reception and was met by the Duty Manager who after I vented my frustrated advised that this was not the case and that the channel could be changed. I made my way back to Gin Box and by then the match that I wanted to watch had already started. I asked for the Manager again and after some time I was met by someone who introduced himself as the most senior person on site, at the moment, the F&B Manager. He attitude and demeanour was quite condescending and he advised that there was nothing he could do as there was a hotel package installed and the channel could not be changed. I informed him that I had sat here, at the Gin Box, previously and watched EPL. He shrugged that comment off and was about to make his way, when I informed him that I was going to escalated to a higher authority. With a no care look on his face he advised that I could proceed and the impression that I got was that he didn’t care because he knew nothing will be done about my concerns.
I calmed myself down (my wife did actually) and we had lunch and then made our way to the accommodation where I watch the remainder of the match on my phone. The staff at Gin Box and your F&B Manager need to take out a page from Carnivore’s current and ex staff on how customers need to be treated and taken care off even if issues are not resolved. Maybe some sort of training sessions so that the Carnivore guys attitudes and skills can rub off...
Read moreI made a booking for a spa treatment (Girl Day Out) on the 14th of May for the 16th of May for my mom and my sister as a surprise gift and specifically requested that it should be made a bit special as it was a gift for my mom for mother’s day and I was promised that all will be well.
They very excitedly went for the treatment today and had THE WORST SPA EXPERIENCE ever!!!
For starters, there was load shedding which is completely understandable but the fact that they had to be treated in an ICE-COLD room and when they had asked the therapists, they were told that the ‘manager’ would only come later on.
Eventually when the VERY ARROGANT manager arrived and the issue was explained, my family was told ‘well there is nothing we can do as load shedding is a nationwide issue and all our generators packed up this morning. All I can do is say sorry’. She kept telling my family ‘Well I said sorry’.
I find this extremely unprofessional! I paid the full amount after being promised that the service would be good and then this is what my family had to deal with. Nevertheless, the therapists were very friendly and tried their best to be accommodating so I cannot blame them for managements carelessness.
The machines used were also not charged so my family waited more than being treated.
After the session, the ‘manager’ told my family that she said sorry, but they can come another day free of charge for a ‘quick’ massage. She kept emphasizing ‘free massage’. My family was also told that she would tell them when they can come, and they shouldn’t just pitch when they feel like.
I find this as discrimination as if we are begging for a free service. Instead, I made payment days prior to the session.
To top it all off, my family asked for the left-over food to be packed as they were shivering of the cold and just wanted to get home so that could have a hot shower, they were laughed at and given the food as if they were asking for charity.
This is UNACCEPTABLE.
For a 4-star hotel and spa to provide such a pathetic treatment, it is a complete disgrace on our countries tourism industry.
Is this the service that Recreation Africa Leisure Industry provides?
I received a call from the General manager saying whatever my posts say are nothing but lies which is unacceptable and he is not willing to do anything to compensate for the pathetic experience.
DO NOT USE RECREATION AFRICA LEISURE...
