My son and I had a fantastic stay at Bluegum Cottage, and we cannot recommend it highly enough! Kitty, the host, is wonderfully warm and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
The cottage itself is delightful, filled with Kitty's artistic and creative touches. From the unique ornaments and the beautiful window bars featuring birds, flowers, and other animals that she designed to the front steps decorated with broken pieces of china plates and cups, every detail added a charming, personal touch.
There is a stunning garden overlooking the hills of Smithfield, including a splash pool for cooling off – a lovely addition to the serene setting.
One of my highlights was sleeping next to the ancient Bluegum tree right by the cottage, which added a magical atmosphere. I would love to know the age of that magnificent tree.
The beds were incredibly comfortable, with soft cotton linen that ensured a perfect night’s sleep. Another highlight of our stay was Kitty’s delicious spaghetti bolognese, which we had ordered in advance.
The safe parking close to the cottage gave us peace of mind throughout our visit.

Read moreBluegum Cottage is a firm favourite of our family, which has stayed there three times on our way back from the Eastern Cape during the December holiday period. The Cottage is comfortable, absolutely spotless and very soulful with owner Kitty's artworks adorning it. A great addition this year was the splash pool, perfect for cooling down, in a lovely peaceful garden. The highlight of our visit this year was the delicious dinner cooked by Kitty - pasta with a very tasty tomato sauce and a lovely salad. Our family are picky eaters, and Kitty was able to please everyone with her cooking, as well as her warm hosting and seeing to our every need. We highly recommend Bluegum Cottage and will certainly be staying...

Loved the view of the beautiful garden, nice linen, touch for detail - lovely fresh flowers in the room and fruit for us - and the newly built Braai area. Putting some lamb chops on the grid whilst bats are flying past - just great. Recommended for anyone who just wants to relax...
