Redlands Hotel & Conference Centre — Hotel in Msunduzi Local Municipality

Poor management of lack thereof. Extremly not worth the price. I've never stayed at the hotel and my review is purely for the restaurant . I have explored my fair share of hotels and the restuarants are always the highlight. I've never given a one star review before but my word we were so dissapointed.

On arrival its so peaceful and the gardens are well maintained and beautiful. We were celebrating an anniversary and thought it would be a good idea to support this beautiful place.

There was a complete lack of a warm welcome or even decent service to waite on us. The Lamb shanks were salty, the vegatables were hard(even after asking for them to be more cooked), the steaks were tasteless. We werent offered any drinks on arrival and I had to ask for a drinks menu which never arrived. Most of the glasses were dirty, we were told the tea and coffee drinks were complimentary(which could partially justify the high prices), but were asked to pay for them when leaving.

The waitress never checked up on us regularly, and our table wasnt cleared properly after eating like in any other place. We spent over R1200 on food for seven people and had to endure it because we were hungry and no one seemed to care that we were unhappy. I got better service and food from KFC, Im in total shock. Now I understand why the eating area is so small and its empty. The guy even found it difficult to give me the managers number, he had no paper or no number ,He didnt know the man's last name. I recently had the pleasure of hosting a conference at this hotel and seriously I cannot say more nicer things about this property and the staff. This event took a lot of work to set up and Paul and his management team pre event where amazing and so accommodating to us. We are a difficult client. Nothing was too much trouble. From the moment I set foot on property, that carried on. Paul and his front office staff and then every single other member of staff were amazing. They managed everything superbly and there wasn't a single thing wrong. The hotel itself was perfect. Great facilities but set in superb grounds so it was great for the delegates every day to be in such lush greenery. The food was exceptional. Tasty and huge portion sizes. The sheets blankets and towels are all snow white , which gives one great confidence in a hotel room.The room was a 2nd floor walk up, but the advantage of a boutique hotel is one gets to open the windows and take advantage of the fresh Midlands air. The room was spacious with a solid wooden desk to work from.I do wish there was a plug closer to the desk for a laptop charger. The lamb curry was delicious and the service was prompt. The only service issue was from the front desk who could been a bit more professional. I had to wait until the front desk administrator was done with a phone call before she acknowledged me, and it is customary to ask if I had been to the hotel before , and explain where the ammenties were located and breakfast times. Those are not major issues and can be addressed with training. Overall...
