This is a two-star hotel at best, and had I known that at the time, I definitely would not have booked it.
Myself and my husband stayed here for 6 nights over December last year and our experience was horrible. Perhaps just bad luck, but everything that could have possibly gone wrong, went wrong.
We stayed in a double room over-looking the parking lot. This was quite an eyesore. It actually felt like we were staying in a shopping complex. This is because the hotel does not have its own parking and shares a parking lot with a whole lot of shops, one of which includes a local pub which can get quite noisy at night. The parking lot itself does not feel safe at all and we had a hard time driving in and out. There are a whole lot of what appear to be homeless men who act like car guards. They hash you for money every time you park your car (even though you are a guest at the hotel). The security of the hotel tries to chase them away but fails because they become aggressive. On the day we checked out, a whole lot of homeless guys had actually decided to squat on the doorstep of the hotel (literally) and the security guard could not get them to leave. It was quite a performance. Because of the lack of safety, we made sure to be parked and in the hotel before dark every day.
The room itself was dirty on arrival. I actually don't think it had been cleaned from the last checkout. There were makeup stains on the linen and towels, dead bugs on the floor, and the bathroom floor was wet. Upon request, the hotel cleaned the room, albeit not very well as it was so rushed. Aside from this, the room smelt like mold for our entire stay. There was mold all over the bathroom. I assume it is because there is not much ventilation. There was a dodgy couch in the corner of the room which had a whole lot of stains on it, and so we were afraid to sit on it as we didn't know what the stains were from. The fridge was dirty so we could not use it. I tried to use the hairdryer one day and it started smoking, smelt like something was melting inside of it, definitely a fire hazard. Our toilet paper was not replaced by room service once it had finished. We had to phone reception twice to ask for toilet paper. On the first evening, we experienced a performance in the early hours of the morning. Guests had come in drunk and were fighting in the passage of the hotel.
To be honest, there was not much that we could make use of in the room as everything felt like a hazard. We even resorted to using our own towels as the towels which we were brought were not clean. We gave up on complaining after about the third complaint and just tried to make the best of a bad situation. But it was horrific and a complete waste of a holiday. On check-out, we were told that the hotel would be in contact with us about some sort of recompense for our experience, but nobody has contacted us yet and it has been almost a year.
Port Alfred itself is beautiful, but sadly our entire trip was tainted by the terrible...
Read moreMy wife and I recently enjoyed a two-night honeymoon stay at MyPond. This was our third visit, the previous being in August 2024. Upon arrival, we were greeted and asked to complete a registration form, then given our key card and room number. However, unlike our previous stays, we were not escorted to our room, nor was assistance offered with our luggage.
Several minor issues require attention to enhance future guest experiences:
Hotel Stay Feedback
Water Issues • Water took forever to get hot & lack of pressure.
Electrical Outlet Problem • kettle and fridge share same plug so each time kettle is used, fridge has to be unplugged.
Missing Amenities • No stock of Hot Chocolate on both occasions when asked.
Maintenance and Room Condition • maintaince is lacking , rooms could do with a fresh coat and abit of an update. • Feels more like a B&B now than a "4 star Hotel" Lamp shade was held on with double sided tape. Beyond the previously noted aspects, Andiswa provided exceptional dinner service. Her amiable demeanor and delightful sense of humor were truly outstanding. Furthermore, the chef's culinary skills were superb; the steak was among the finest I have ever experienced. The overall dining experience...
Read moreDisappointment is an understatement
Someone stole a certain portion of my perfume/cologne, I reported the incident to the housekeeping manager, she promised to buy it in the morning before my checkout in the morning. That didn't happen, not even an apology from the hotel, what was even worse, when I was about to depart I was called by a certain lady to sign something I requested her to come to the car because I was late for an appointment in East London and on top of that it was raining. I had to go back to the hotel because they thought I didn't pay for my hotel stay, when I arrived at the reception, there was a certain lady wearing grey and red with a stinky attitude thinking I was about to leave without paying. My Pond hotel staff treatment was disgusting and the issue someone who stole a certain portion of my perfume....I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you want to erase beautiful memories of Port Alfred. I don't even want to mention limited breakfast options. But something for sure a white person wouldn't get such treatment, I was treated that way because I'm black even the issue of perfume that was...
