I am writing this because of the way we treated by Merion the owner of this Lower Sabie Rest Camp.||So we booked the Lower Sarbie Rest camp at 15:30 while we were inside Kruger National Park. We received the conformation and we entered the location provided by bookings.com which was Skukuza Shop and Restaurant, Sukukuza 1350, South Africa (pic attached). When we arrived we were unable to find any camping so we called Merion and told her we were at Skukuza, Merion said she would send us her location and that we must proceed to this location. I entered the details into google and it was 1hr 30 mins from where Booking.com location had instructed to go. We called Merion back up and we told her that we was 1hr and 30 mins away and it is now nearly 17:45 and we need to be out of the Kruger park. Merion told us to proceed and when we arrive at the gate tell the security guard that we got lost.||We made our way to this location it was starting to get dark very quickly and now!!! We came across lots of animals that were just running in front of the car is was getting very dangerous i have attached pics of lions and elephants. The thing is if we did hit an elephant our vehicle could have been overturned and inside Kruger you dont have phone reception so trust me you are very isolated in a hostile location. We arrive eventually at Lower Sarbi camping and was immediately detained by a security guard how said we have broken the law. This was very intimidating and it got worse as he hat to call the chief security officer. We were unable to leave and Merion was now not answering her phone !!! (pic attached). The chief security office arrived and he then was telling us we had broken the law by driving in Kruger after 18:00 hrs and we are going to be fined. He started to imply that he was going to write the fine then he said are you sure you want me to write the fine.... he was clearly after a bribe and trying to extort cash from us to which we refused and said give us the fine. I text Merion to inform her we were being fined and called her a couple of times to which she ignored. Next thing the security guard handed me a phone and Merrion was on the end of the line i informed her we were being fined R1000 !!!! She then told me i would have to pay it due to driving after 18:00hrs. We were issued a Green form to which we had to sign and we had to listen to some crap about a judge has signed it and we may go to jail. We were finally released after about 2 hours Merion was not there to show us where the tent was so we had to search for it in the dark. We finally went to bed. Dont worry it doesn't stop here..... We awoke early and went to the wash rooms when we returned to the tent some random guy waiting outside the tent told us we must pay the fine he followed us around kept saying you must pay. I ignored him and we jumped in the car and drove away. We drove into the next carpark and next thing we saw was the guy looking over the fence telling us we must pay the fine this was all quite intimidating as i thing he had been waiting outside our tent all night. We proceeded into the visitor centre and we paid the R1000 fine which is about £40.||This review is not about the money i really don't care about £40 i just cant stand liars and Merrion is a Liar... she could not lie straight in bed ! ||I feel that she knows who the security guards were and when we were stopped they were hopping to get cash from us. We opted for the fine as at least the money goes to the conservation of the Kruger National Park.||I complained to Bookings.com and they offered me £6 which was coming from bookings.com I refused this offer as Merrion should be giving back the money not bookings.com. So Merrion i hope this review helps other potential customers know how you treated us!||Having said this the area (Lower Sarbie) is really nice there is a little coffer shop called MUG and Bean that was very good. ||Merion refused to give us a refund or pay the R1000 fine. She still has not...

Read moreBush Tent 24: Accommodation fair but the small adjoining kitchen on the deck was awful from the smell of bat droppings. The smell was vile and upon checking further, the top of the kitchen cupboards were covered by piles of bat droppings. It was an unbearable smell and toxic to the extreme. This had not been wiped clean in months. We were told that there was a serious bat problem and that the bat boxes had been removed elsewhere. However in the office, restaurant area, one could see the bats in the thatch. Yes, there is a problem, but clean up on a regular basis. Why is this not checked on a weekly basis?|We were moved temporarily to a thatched unit which also smelt mouldy, but was certainly an improvement. The old air conditioner had been replaced by a new split unit above it, and the old unit was left there, crisscrossed with insulation tape. It was an eyesore.|Back to the tented camp now to River View 18, which also had a lingering smell of bat droppings, but was livable. However, it lacked general attention; the facia boards were broken and in need of repair and varnish. There was a broken slat on the stairs which was patched up with screws. The tented canvasses were dirty and in need of a wash.|Our final unit was Bush Tent 6. This was an improvement but the sliding entry door didn't lock and when maintenance arrived, they just adjusted the catch rather than replacing the lock.|Our neighbours at River View Tent 19, were distressed at the broken kitchen cupboards, where the drawers were packed on top of one another. They were two elderly ladies, who tried to make the best of a disappointing visit.|The KNP is a crown jewel in our country and sadly is not being looked after. We took our complaints to the manager, who alarmingly had never read the numerous bad reports on Trip Advisor or Lekker Slaap. Is the park being managed by incompetent people? Clearly it is. We had booked our trip a year prior to our stay and were badly let down by the accommodation. For R1900/night this is unacceptable and incredibly disappointing.|We see that there are 10 individuals on the board. Why? This is where the money is going and not into...
