Busy place, well run, consistently good, Exceptional View ! The view from here might be the best dining view on earth !!

We have been coming to Kruger for 7 years all the way from Canada. Each time we go to Lower Sabie Mugg n Bean we get excited. A very busy place that is super well run for its size and number of people they serve. The view from this spot if your a game lover is the best you can get, add great food, service and drinks and you have just stepped into heaven. MY view lol

The eggs benny is the best of any restaurant on earth ! A big menu that has something for everyone. We have been coming to Kruger Park for 7 years, we used to always go to the other camps for a night or 2 knowing we could enjoy the consistency of quality food and service, but something happened as not all the Kruger camps have M and B.

We went Satara on this recent trip, the new restaurant there does not hold a candle to when Mugg and Bean ran it, sadly this affects our choice to visit other camps as they dont have Mugg and Bean. Please consider putting them back into all the camps, they know what they are doing and can handle the demand for a wide variety of international clients who enjoy consistency in both food and service.

Back to lower sabie camp, the view from the patio is just unreal, there is always something going on, the stunning setting overs expansive views of the Sabie River, for about 3-5 km, always something going on, Ellies, Waterbuk, Warties, Buffalo, Giraffe, Monkeys, Baboons, Hyena, Lions, now and then if your lucky you will see a Leopard cruising along the beach. This spot maybe the best spot on the planet for mother nature with animals putting on a mind blowing 5 star show !

We are always excited to go here and take in whatever happens. Hope you enjoy this as much as we do, its a big restaurant that would be a challenge to run and keep all happy but they seem to be able to pull it off.

Many thanks to Mugg and Bean staff for doing such a good job at such a busy place. 12 outa 10 in my books considering all the factors involved in running such a busy place with possibly the most diversified international clients that go here. We love it and hope you do too. Hi ho silver away lol ...

During the week of 6 March we had breakfast at Mugg & Bean Lower Sabie.

The overall feeling you get is that the restaurant is dirty, the Bottomless Coffee Station was out of order and the lady working at the Bakery section, in full view of all the customers, clearly has no regard for any food safety regulations.

We were five people in our group and apart from us there were customers at three other tables. We ordered one Orange Juice and four Strawberry, Hibiscus and Ginger Slush for that we waited more than 30 minutes.

I then ordered the Sweetcorn Fritter Stack but apparently they did not have the ready mix for that. Surely that should be made from fresh ingredients?

I then opted for the Veg Rosti, which was disgusting. It was paper thin disks of gunk with no discernible ingredients. I took a small bite and it tasted like glue. I send my plate back but no one bothered to ask if anything was wrong. The waiter cleared my plate without one question about the uneaten food.

It is concerning that so many ready mixes are being used in meals that can easily be prepared with fresh ingredients. I find it ironic that their own website states; ‘We understand that a meal is only as good as the ingredients that were used to prepare it.'

I cannot remember when last I had such a terrible experience at a restaurant and it is sad and concerning to think this is a restaurant that serves so many local and overseas tourists.

The disappointment, however, did not stop there. After several attempts I finally managed to get a complaint to FamousBrands.

Their response was totally misguided and dismissive not to mention the generic response I got was riddled with grammatical errors.

If Mugg & Bean Lower Sabie’s service and quality of food as well as FamousBrand’s response is any indication of customer satisfaction then I am sad to say they do not care about their...

Visited Lower Sabie as a day visitor on Monday 16th December. Despite Mugg and Bean being part of Famous Brands, that manages over 400 restaurants in the country, it is a disgrace that they have got the best restaurant spot of all camps in the park and they cannot professionally plan and manage it. They have highly paid Famous Brand executives , lots of managers at head office, huge infrastructure to manage their suppliers and supplies yet when I got to this Mugg and Bean for lunch on the 16th a number of items on the menu were out of stock. The excuse from the staff was that head office did not supply enough stock and work on a 7 day stock delivery cycle and they are not responsible for ordering the stock. So none of these expensive executives thought about the long weekend, looked at previous years data of what numbers they did, looked at what is their main sellers and adjusted their orders accordingly but rather let their customers down. SANParks should penalise them for poor service delivery as part of their SLA and the management executives who are on their Christmas Break should be held accountable for this disgraceful planning - foreigners on the restaurant complained, people were disappointed, the problem is it was not 1 item but over 30% of the menu was not available. On the day the food we had, not our first choice, was good, service was very good, cleanliness is always a challenge at this outlet but it is what it is. They have a captive market hence don’t care that items are not available as people will still eat at this venue as there is no other option at this camp. Also I have visited Lower Sabie over the years and it was quiet on this day compared to other...

There is a Mug & Been at the Lower Sabie Rest Camp just past the general store. They have a small coffee shop style area as well as a large outdoor restaurant area with seating overlooking the Lower Sabie River. Opening hours are 7am to 9pm daily. We visited this Mug & Bean a couple times during our recent week at Kruger National Park. On the first occasion, we simply had double espressos along with sausage roll and beef & mushroom pie at their small coffee shop. Espressos tasted fine and we found the light food orders to be better than expected. This is a good quick stop for take-away food and drinks. There are a few tables here as well. The larger restaurant area is just past the coffee order counter. Waitstaff will seat you, many tables have views of the river. Expect to see quite a lot of wildlife. We enjoyed late lunch here. Menu is quite varied, portions bigger than you'd expect and food quality pretty good. On the occasion, we had an avocado (guacamole) & egg on toast as well as a Halloumi and tomato wrap. Ingredients were just fine and both orders filling and good. Same could be said about our fruit slush drink orders. Overall, quite happy with our two visits to Mug & Bean at Lower Sabie Rest Camp. Expectations weren't high but they managed to surpass, resulting in good meal stops here. Will happily take a meal or two here next time we visit KNP in the future.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION TO SIP A BEER - FOOD NOT GREAT! My wife and I had dinner from Mugg & Bean Restaurant at Lower Sabie Rest Camp on 18th March 2019. The restaurant is located adjacent to the Rest Camp reception area. The view in the evening was magnificent with reddish sky against the setting sun. Being on a curve on the river, the wide view allows you to see many animals hippo, buffalo, water buck and many others in the river below. I had a beer while looking and enjoying the wildlife down on the river. The choice of dishes available at the restaurant, however, was rather poor. There was no sea-food, not even fish and chips. The service was friendly, though average. I cannot say that the food was tasty. The portions were small for the price charged. Since there is no other restaurant, visitors to the camp have no choice but to come here. On the second night we stayed at the camp we cooked our own meals with items purchased from the Park a shop. The restaurant is open from 0700 to 2100 hrs.
