I am writing this review with great disappointment, as I expected much more from Pumua Guesthouse and Spa. I booked a package for a surprise 50th birthday celebration, which was supposed to include décor, cake, food, venue hire, and more. Unfortunately, the entire experience was far below what was promised.
From the beginning, the receptionist, Nelly, assured me that what I wanted could be delivered. She even showed me examples of their previous work and guaranteed they could meet my expectations, provided I covered any additional costs if needed — which I agreed to. She also showed me pictures of cakes, claiming they were baked by their chef. Naturally, I anticipated a freshly baked cake. However, only a few days before the event, when I followed up, I was informed that they would not be baking the cake but instead buying one from Spar. This was never communicated earlier, and had I not asked, I would never have known.
On the day of the event, I arrived early to check on the setup and was extremely disappointed. The chairs were dusty, the glasses were left unwashed with small boxes inside them, and we had to clean the chairs ourselves. When I asked Andile (the staff member present) to wash the glasses, she dismissively told me they were “new” and didn’t need cleaning — which is unacceptable for a professional venue.
During the event, the bathrooms had no tissue. I asked for tissue more than four times over the course of two hours, yet nothing was done. In the end, I had to take tissue from my own car for my guests to use. The staff’s attitude was condescending, making me feel like a nuisance rather than a paying client. For a guesthouse and spa, such poor basic service is simply shocking.
Two days later, I returned to lay a complaint and asked to speak with management or the owner. I was told Andile was the manager, which I know is untrue since she had been introduced earlier as the décor person. Even before the event, when I asked to speak to the manager about the staff’s unprofessional behavior, I was told the manager “does not like speaking to guests.” How is a customer supposed to raise concerns when staff are both incompetent and disrespectful? This lack of transparency only added to my frustration.
To the owner: I sincerely hope I am the last guest to experience such unprofessional and condescending treatment. I was a paying customer and expected to be treated with courtesy and competence. Sadly, Pumua Guesthouse and Spa failed to deliver on even the most...
Read moreMy baby took me out for my birthday, for the day and night so we could have us time away from the kids. The place is literally 1.3km away from our home. We thought it would do us good. Food was great, service good for the most from the ladies, though our room door was not working and couldn’t close & lock which left my partner feeling very anxious due to the safety aspect, cold water to shower at 8am in the morning, we booked a two course dinner & paid but was an oversight from their side as they say & we only received the meal, tried to be corrected later by one of the ladies there by bringing us dessert in the room later where one bowl had a fly in it. Robes smelled stuffy and had dirty tissues in them. One of the ladies working there smelled them and confirmed as well. I had, had a good birthday only to be...
Read moreI booked for my birthday on the 31st of May 2025. They texted me a day before our check in day and notified me about water outage but didn't tell me that they don't have electricity. They only told us when we got there, meaning we can't take a shower or make tea. The jacuzzi was cold didn't enjoy. We couldn't charge our phones n laptop mind you my husband had to work. The massage was not good at all. Instead of feeling relaxed I was tired n my body being painful. And when I told her that she's hurting me when she was doing the foot scrap n massage she said maybe I have sours that's why it's painful. The breakfast was amazing keep it up. But try to get a generator for emergencies because there no way I can live my house to go out to relax only to take a bath in a vaskom due to...
