We stayed at Protea hotel Kimberly on 29 September in celebration of our anniversary and had such a disappointing experience. We checked in at 19:58, waited a bit and was assisted by the Guest Liaison on duty. I was told there was 2 rooms booked but I booked one through Protea vouchers. My voucher of R1000 couldn't be found on the booking system and after showing it to them it was settled and I was able to pay the remaining balance of R798. This all toolkit nearly 30 min. I was offered water and accepted the offer but was then pointed to a water dispenser that was clearly out all day with fruit that looked off in it. I then declined. Once the issue was sorted we were given our room key and pointed in the direction we needed to go. ||Once we got to the room I looked for water and realized there's no water or glasses in the room. We called down fo received asked for water and glasses to be sent to the room and was told the Duty Manager would come up to us as its supposed to be there. 20 min passes no one came. We called again and was told someone would come soon. Still nothing after a further 20 mins we were called from reception and they said they would bring it themselves, still no one came. I then called back after another 15 min passed and told them that its ridiculous they are ruining our anniversary and I would collect the water myself. I was told they didn't know housekeeping was off duty already.| I went down and asked for the water and glasses and was told that they didn't know where the Duty manager is. This was just absolutely ridiculous thay I had to beg for over an olhour for something so simple. ||To add insult to injury my husband asked the housekeeper for more toilet paper as there was only a half in when we arrived and we were given another half roll and told they still waiting for stock. ||We stay at a Protea hotel every year for our anniversary usually in Franschoek and this was the worst experience, it put a damper on the experience. ||The staff has no interest in guest service. At checkout I mentioned how bad the experience was and was told that I would receive an email but it clearly wasn't important for them to email me.||I also work in the hotel industry but will never recommend this...
Read moreWell. I honestly had taken a total dislike on the Marriott Durban. But this one should be rated amongst one of my all time favorites. Firstly there is no carpet its wood. Which means the place is clean.
The style could be easily mistaken for outdated as per the side lamp but remember they are keeping into style the 1900s century feel.
The chairs are well kept clean. The wifi speed is fantastic. The bathroom was and is spotless, plenty of towls as in the picture. I enjoyed the pillows clean, smelled steamed.
Staff is courteous, well mannered.
Things that need improvement. The kitchen and a bit more info for the security.
In the afternoon after being directed by security how to get to the big hole. One of the staff asks if we have seen it, my sister days she missed our tour she directs us how to get there. Its a walk to the hole via a gate from the hotel. I was a bit irked about this but I think this is a training glicth versus ill content. The reason for this is he happily greated us upon arrival and offered a ticket and a great stay at the hotel. He was eager to do and serve, a services that is poor executed of late by security guards. He gets a solid 7/10. Give the man more knowledge on directing tourists. The hotel should establish a relationship with tourist destinations inform people why they should come back to your city not once every five years.
The food 1/5 supper was poor the day before thus leading one to go out for supper the next day versus you keeping money in the hotel.
Breakfast the pancakes where soapy and to be frank my pancakes taste and look more appetizing. Change chefs or give more lessons because you will lose clientele if you do not correct such an important pillar in your service. The bad food is easily covered by your staff courteous mannerism. So with what was done here I am happy.
The cleaning staff 10/10. Guys the place is spotless something so easily missed by a lot of hotels. You guys get it right. We forgot a cable before we left it was in hand. I truly truly appreciate the service by the cleaning staff both Saturday and Sunday morning.
Receptionist on all days 10/10. Your staff is amazing. Just work on the chef or cook. Please.
Great...

I was able to get in contact with Crystalshuttle which offered a fixed rate of ZAR100, which was quite reasonable.|The drive from Airport KIM is approx. 15 min.|Yes I choose Protea Hotel because of its location next to The Big Hole Museum, which was my purpose of my visit to Kimberley.|Protea Kimberley is a Classic hotel, true to its old heritage, which I found very charming. I was lucky to have some peace and quiet during my short stay, and it takes you 1 min. to walk to the museum. Check in was swift and welcoming. Bathroom of good size, waterpressure very weak and only cold water, shampoo and moisterisor provided. There are no plugs for shawers/ toothbrush etc. in the bathroom. |The premises and the rooms was clean and well maintained.|I choose to have my breakfast at the hotel (ZAR195) which had a good selection of hot and cold items and great coffee. I also had two meals during my stay which were both well prepared and tasty. All served with a smile by the wonderful staff. |I ordered a wake up call for my early departure next morning, the young man at the front desk did not seem to care much about the request and unfortunately I did not receive that wake up call, only woke up 15 mins. prior to my departure making my departure a bit stressfull.
