Emmaus might be a million miles away from your minimalist, high tech, 'trendy' Boutique hotel but what it lacks in 'coolness' it more than makes up for in good old-fashioned comfort, home-cooking and fantastic location ! Owners Dave and Eugenie exude warmth ; big smiles and a genuine concern to make your stay as much 'home from home' as is possible. Most of the 7 rooms have en-suite facilities, kettle and Tea/Coffee, DSTV with BBC World... ; the beds and pillows ensure a great nights sleep. Breakfast has all the usual 'staples', cooked to order by Eugenie. Dave duly 'waits on'...and is nearly as accomplished in the mornings as he is in the evenings presiding over his bar, entertaining with friendly banter and lots of insight about South Africa today and its history !! What can be better than indulging a Sun-downer in front of a sun-setting spectacle, metres away from the roaring Atlantic ! At Emmaus, the sea and stunnning views are integral to your experience... Yzerfontein is a sleepy hidden gem just 60 minutes drive North of Cape Town and custodian of THE most beautiful beach for walking ! There's a SPAR shop and just a handful of restaurants - Die Rooi Granaat is a 'top notch' favourite ( 'excellence' is a by-word for its Brand with 'quirky eccentricity' a close second ! ) and Kaijaiki never disappoints, particularly on the ambience front ( see separate reviews ).||Go - seek out this part of the world. Circa R850 for a double room at Emmaus and R650 for Dinner for 2 at either of the Restaurants. Satisfaction...and beyond is...
Read moreHi Lorna, thank you for welcoming us however I just want to let you know that I'm extremely disappointed with my stay at emanus on sea, firstly my son was locked in the bathroom and apparently yiur husband came to open it, and wasn't apologetic as surely it is a fault on yiur side and then he told my son not to lock the door again, not in a good way, Friday night I was so scared as I saw a mouse running out of rhe room into the kitchen, sat we had breakfast and all good, my daughter and her boyfriend arrived, we steeped out for a while to the beach, had fun, came back, chilled and braaid, at the same time yiur hubby came to tell us to pick up the bkankies from the grass which my daughters were laying on 🙄second time around he told us there is a power outage which was understandable and out of his control, but knowing he has a generator and that he was not going to put it on until eight and then also make mention that he will switch it off at ten, I honestly feel that yiur husband has no hospitality skills as he was watching us like a hawk, and then ask me when is my guest leaving, after we were practically without electricity whole day, I have paid a substantial amnt for us to go on vaca and have fun, home away from home and it turned out terrible, I will definitely visit yzerfontein soon but not emanus...
Read moreOn an overnight trip to drop our children off at a birthday celebration in Yzerfontein, we wanted to stay for the night instead of having to travel back the next day to fetch all the kids. Upon phoning for a booking at Emmaus on Sea, I was immediately asked if we were married and the proprietor informed me that she does not allow unmarried couples to stay in her guest house ( I am a 47 year old widower and my partner is a divorcee). She went on to quote the bible as her supporting reasons. So this is one to be avoided as anyone in this industry who out-rightly rejects people based on their marital status is unlikely to be a welcoming host. It is a pity that such a beautiful seaside town such as Yzerfontein can be held back with such conservative attitudes. Luckily we found another self catering spot and we were able to enjoy the beauty...
