A lovely position that is easy to access, via a boardwalk. Stayed in number 2 Jacana Lodge for 4 nights, saw lots of wonderful and birds creatures that walked / flew past the lodge at breakfast. I would have given this a 5-star rating, but we felt that the bush was just a bit too close / all around, which meant you could not really see the sky that well, it was, therefore, a bit dark and claustrophobic. That was what my family felt. I didn't worry about it too much as the lodge had been beautifully and tastefully built and was very nice to stay in - home from home... I agreed that just a few carefully pruned trees / twigs etc would not at all detract from the lodge, but it would make a huge difference to the light and overall view without stopping the wildlife from visiting. We did eat at the restaurant next door at the next lodge up the hill (need to book). I asked if the fish was fresh which was promised it was ( bit silly believing that) and it was almost inedible (been frozen and then overcooked!). it was extremely expensive for what it was, so would not recommend expecting to eat every night - expensive and not great quality food. However, my daughters and I had Ostrich - which they absolutely loved. It was good, but the veg was terrible to go with it, and it was overpriced. They do guide nighttime safaris, which we did to look for beasties - which was brilliant and very interesting - we all loved it. Finding scorpions in trees with a UV light was amazing! So, overall this place is fabulous if you want to just watch and listen to all the wonderful...
Read moreWe stayed in chalet 1 with the plunge pool for 5 nights and would gladly have stayed for a month. It's a lovely spacious accommodation and the outside shower is the best showering experience ever! We absolutely love Hluhuwe and have visited now many times as there are so many wonderful places to visit that are not too far to drive to. There is no wifi in the Lodge so it's a perfect place to escape, completely relax and connect with the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. We loved the early morning walk with giraffes, buck and the ever fascinating dung beetle. The beautiful bush babies came to visit at sundown. Thanks to all for our...
