Kleinwaterval plaas is a gem. The Toolshed, which is the cottage we stayed at on the farm, is cozy and eclectic. It was very clean and the vibe when we checked ourselves in, laidback. The Toolshed has a comfortable lounge with woodburning stove (which we did not get to use since it was not cold enough sadly), but bag of wood and firelighters supplied which is a nice touch. I am a fussy sleeper, and the bed was amazing - firm yet not a rock. Linen was spotless and towels fluffy and generously sized. Kitchen is well equipped and the gas hob great. Only missing items were a pasta pot and colander - and place mats would have been nice. Enough dishwashing liquid and the tea towels were clean. The decor (minimal), got me though. The shed's beams are exposed, and the one dividing the lounge from the bedroom is painted and the screen of three vertical beams forms a conceptual curtain. The feather mural on the bedroom wall reminded me of Native American iconography, as did the painted kitchen chairs and the rugs. We celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary there, and Mikael was kind enough to meet our request for an onion, refusing our barter of a small bowl of olives. Only functional issue is the shower (which is super) but does not drain well and on pulling the plug in the kitchen sink, it bubbles to the shower and is smelly.. but in the land of relax and peaceful chill, who cares really. We will be back with our kids and their partners for a longer stay. Oh, and did I mention Jazeera who welcomed us with many tail wags and parking on the sofa with her head in my lap - fell in love with that dog but Missy is not half shabby too. And Tesselaars is certainly not NY, but the Old Post office dishes up a mean...
Read moreWhat a place.... devine few days. We ended up staying another night 'cause we couldnt bare to leave. Relaxed atmosphere, with a "nothing's to much trouble" attitude. Copious amounts of coffee and cigs on our stone paved outside area. There's a lovely braai/fire pit too. Roaring fireplace inside, best bed and duvets I've ever experienced in any hospitality venue! The fresh duck and chicken eggs, were a real treat, a lovely touch. The Alpacas, donkey, geese and horses kept us entertained with their shinanigans, while the ongoing workings of the farm, didn't even register. Quiet and peaceful with lovely staff. Geusti and Gary, brothers, are a delight, with many tales of animal antics and stormy weather. The hosts are an...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place - we stayed in Bush Cottage - two friends and a labrador. The labrador was in absolute heaven and so were we! A great place to chill and enjoy the views, the animals and the peace. Unfortunately The Kitchen was closed when we were there but it looks wonderful. We had a great walk through gorgeous fynbos to the small waterfall on the farm boundary. Dirt roads to access but they were in good condition. Was so sad to only stay one night - could have stayed a week. Cottages are extremely comfortable - have all you need and the ready to light braai was a big bonus for us. Hope to...
