We stayed here as we didn't have other options, most places in the area were fully booked due to a week long event in the region. ||The hotel is sold as vintage... it's just old period! With furniture and curtains that were probably there when they first opened...mostly carpeted so it's stuffy... except for the flat sheet and pillowcases. ..everything was brown and depressing ||And not sure whether things are clean or not. I struggledto sleep the first night. I was then moved to another room on day 2 , bed linen was much better however the bathroom was something else...old and stained...dust lurking by the windows, and this is on a floor that's advertised as recently renovated.||||Dinner was something else...the first night we were served expired drinks (juices and soft drinks ), unfortunately some from my team only saw the expiry dates after drinking... there was an apology eventually and the drinks replaced... the "chef" stands by the meat dishes and serves 1 portion of whatever is offered and is rude if you ask for more, for example i asked for more cottage pie as i didn't want the pork meat and fish and i was told what are others going to have ... for paying clients? Then the breakfast chef always mixes up the egg orders...and if you want scrambled eggs you'll get half a portion of the 2 eggs he would have made.||||Then there was a planned water shutdown by the municipality (we were notified ) , the notice said it was for Thursday 8 am till midnight. ..there was still no water when we woke up Friday. No plan was made , no accountability for anything. We lost a day's work because we couldn't go face clients not having washed so we checked out and returned home.||||The place can get really loud (fellow guests )...loud talking....banging doors and the annoying elevator at a time when you are just trying to rest and sleep.||||The bed was also too short for my legs...||||The front desk lady is quite cheeky and rude as well!||||So honestly, if you can help it do not go...
Read moreI would not recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Joburg, Potchefstroom area. It is very, very dated, old, dark and depressing. The only thing this hotel had going for it was the friendly staff in the dining room. We booked accommodation months in advance for a double room, upon arriving they were overbooked and after some complaining they finally got us a room with two twin beds...very disappointing. There were bugs in the bathroom and I mean like huge beetles, couldn't walk around bare foot. ||||The only reason we stayed here was to attend the world powerlifting competition. The facilities for the lifters were atrocious...a tent was set up outside as the warm up area, lifters were freezing and had to walk outside to get to the main lifting area. People in the audience could not see the lifting going on due to the number of obstacles in the way on and around the stage.||||On checking it appeared that we were over charged for our stay - the room rate was doubled if two people stayed in the same room. Overall we will never return here even if the powerlifting was held here again, there are much nicer hotels within walking distance. we moved from here for the last three days of our trip to a hotel closer to Joburg in Sandton, what a beautiful hotel, clean, excellent service, warm, amazing breakfast buffet...Town Lodge...would definately stay here again and much cheaper for the quality.||||If you're a vegetarian the choices are a cheese and tomato sandwich (if there's any left) or chips. Fish was too salty...
Read moreIf you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere and a great place to unwind with a sundowner, the Elgro Hotel Potchefstroom is definitely worth checking out. The swimming pool is a particularly lovely spot to spend some time, with a great ambiance and plenty of space to stretch out and relax.
But it's not just the atmosphere that makes this hotel a great choice. The food is also extremely affordable and well-prepared. The menu has a great selection of dishes to choose from, and everything we tried was delicious. And the waiters are always there to help and provide great service, which is a definite bonus.
Overall, we always feel at ease next to the swimming pool, enjoying the delicious food and great service. However, there are a couple of downsides to this establishment. The hotel requires a bit of structural upkeep, which can be a bit of a turn-off for some guests. Additionally, there are unwanted "guests" who try to sell their services at night outside across the hotel and other establishments down the road, which is not a pleasant experience. This is an issue that should be addressed by the local authority.
Despite this minor issue, we highly recommend the Elgro Hotel Potchefstroom for anyone looking for a relaxing atmosphere, great food, and excellent service. It's a wonderful place to spend...
