Opstal Guestfarm — Hotel in Tlokwe Local Municipality

On the weekend of 30 March 2024 we stayed at this guest house. We were VERY UNHAPPY with the manger who barged into the room without knocking. Our room key were on the outside of the door, which I know were our mistake, but the decent thing to do was to knock before you enter. Then with a very chicky, attitude she told as that there is no visitors allowed. Our visitor was our son who is studying at North West University(NWU) and was only with us for a few hours on his time off. I asked her to please state the rules of guest house on their website, so that the guests are informed before paying. To arrive there and only then find out that there is no visitors allowed after paying is unacceptable. She told me that i can go and visit my son at his apparent and not there. Like in really this girl thinks that every NWU student owns or rents an apartment? Her attitude was very bad and disrespectful, even the way she spoke to their cleaning staff were rude. When confronted she apologised, but with a lot of "buts" and not sincere at all. To top everything off is that we stayed at another guest house, Cosy Cottages, also owned by them or under same management, a few weeks earlier and my son came and visit and left at night with no problem at all. On the 30th of April my fiancé and I decided to visit Opstal for our anniversary which we celebrated at Opstal last year aswell. Sent 3pm check-in ETA to the guestfarm Checked in with my fiancé at around 4pm rooms were still being made, waited 20min to be checked in we understood that they were busy cleaning eventually we checked in l asked for two extra pillows they never came.. the next morning we asked the cleaning staff to please clean our room while we go out for breakfast because I come from an operation not so long ago and just need to rest as im still on crutches.. we came back at 1pm room wasn't made we left for lunch came back at 4pm room still not made.. asked the staff what was going on,.they said sorry they will get to it right away, so we got ready for dinner and left again to give them time.... we got back at 8pm the room was STILL not made, I could not understand why this is happening as they had all gone to where they stay,, then I called the reception and asked what was going on as this was our fourth visit to Opstal and have never experienced such incompetence, we had to sit in the car at night while they made the room... tv wasnt working either since we arrived they said they would send errors to some technician on the last night so we never used the tv at all... I was only looking for a comfortable, clean place for 1 night over Easter weekend for a good price. I just needed a place to sleep and shower, not worried about breakfast.

I got more than expected. I was greeted very friendly by staff, got checked in and showed to my room. The room and bathroom were very clean, neat, and updated.

The room was equipped with a dresser, coffee/tea facilities, microwave, fridge, aircon, tv, ample conveniently placed power outlets (with USB sockets), small table and two chairs, and ample lighting. Bed & pillows were very comfortable. Linen and towels were clean and fresh. Ample bedding. The bathroom had a big walk-in shower, toilet, and basin.

I asked for a room with twin beds and close by parking, since my elderly mother was with me. Got exactly that. All the rooms I saw had parking right in front of the door. There were no stairs or steps to the rooms I saw.

I can't fault this place. Was real value for money. I will definitely stay here again.
