This is THE hotel to stay at at Gordon's Bay. I have stayed at hotels and guesthouses all over SA and around the world. But Manor on the Bay is a true gem. I call this a smiling hotel - it's certainly more than a guesthouse - bcause I never stopped smiling from the time I arrived until I left. From the lovely staff and spotless gardens to the modern rooms, the sun room, restaurant and pool, this is Gordon Bay's finest. The beach is literally across the road, with a range of restaurants and little coffee shops up and down the street.
All these things matter but nothing meant as much as the generosity, hospitality, gratitude and unwavering dedication to perfection from Jenny and Sebastiaan. I can say confidently that you won't find any more gracious hosts than these two. Period. Exceedingly kind and willing to accommodate you no matter how annoying we were, they were there for us 24 hours a day. In fact I don't think they ever sleep! Jenny is an outstanding cook. The breakfasts are delicious, and so are the cappuccinos, the pool is as warm as a bath and the smiles and laughs lasted for days afterwards.
3 days were definitely too short a time. I wish we'd stayed longer. And to cap it all off, Jenny and Seb still gave us a farewell present right at the end. Ridiculous!
As a heritage building the architecture is lovely, but the rooms are perfectly modern and each one is unique. We ate at Zest and a fresh seafood restaurant a few hundred metres up from the hotel at Bikini Beach - white beaches and warm water. Both were scrumptious. Getting a reservation is as easy as asking your hosts to make a call. They've even created a lengthy list of activities and adventures to choose from in the surrounding area.
My wife and I highly recommend Manor on the Bay. 5 Stars are simply not enough to describe...
Read moreManor on the Bay is located in the lovely town of Gordon’s Bay. The Manor is located right in front of a gorgeous sandy beach, the sea water is clean and shallow - perfect for a swim or kayaking.
We were greeted by Olivier and Yamin, who are simply the most delightful hosts.
The Manor is a beautiful building built in the 19th century. Our room (room 1) had large, lovely windows giving us the most beautiful view over the bay. Our room had a lovely high ceiling, with exposed wooden beams and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had both a shower and large bathtub and two sinks. Our room was also equipped with a television, safe, hairdryer, bathrobes, tea and coffee making facilities, minibar and as a special treat upon arrival - some wonderful Port!
Breakfast is served in the main house and consists of a really delicious continental breakfast, with the possibility of a tasty hot breakfast too. Although we did not make use of it, the Manor also has a lovely swimming pool, and beach/pool towels are provided.
Gordon’s Bay is a quiet town, it has a couple of restaurants, cafes and quirky bookshops. From Gordon’s Bay it is easy to get to Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Hermanus - it is a great location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
It was my partners birthday and he was surprised with a lovely birthday message written out on our bed with herbs and flowers - such a wonderful and thoughtful gesture.
Oliver and Yamin are simply delightful, friendly and nothing is too much for them - the perfect hosts!
I highly recommend staying at Manor on the Bay, we will most surely be...
Read moreManor on the bay is a nice B&B with lovely spacious rooms, good beds, nice shower. And a lovely little yard with a small pool.
The number of umbrellas is too small and the number of "beds" can be too small in comparison to the number of available rooms.
Very friendly owners (Man, French but with perfect English, Woman, Birmese. both owners speak English and French and are extremely friendly.
The location has not that much to offer, compared to for example the peninsula (Fish hoek, Kalk Bay), but is nice enough.
The Manor has a direct and very lovely view over the Bay, there is only a small street separating the Manor from the sea. The road can be quite busy during the day but is pretty quiet at night.
We stayed in Family Suite because our daughter joined us. Be aware that the Bunk bed is not really suitable for adult children and certainly not for tall boys
Absolutely worth mentioning is that there is no power blackout (load shedding) as Manor on the bay has it's own (day time) solar power grid and night time battery power, sufficient even for the use of the AC / hair dryer etc
We absolutely recommend The Manor on the Bay... Thanks Olivier and Olya for making our...
