Phakalane is truly a hidden gem, a tranquil and beautiful space that invites you to simply slow down and relax. Surrounded by nature, it's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. One of my favorite spots was the deck beside the pond. It's serene, and ideal for soaking up some sun with a book or enjoying a peaceful session of early morning yoga. The entire atmosphere encourages stillness and presence. The huts are quaint yet cosy and the breakfast spread was great, and freshly prepared. Whether you're looking to unwind, reconnect, or just breathe a little deeper, Phakalane is a beautiful space to do just that.

Stayed in the Water Hut for 2 nights and it was magnificent. I left feeling well rested and rejuvenated. The luxurious hut was equipped with a small fireplace and a lot of personal touches that gave it a personality. The open air bathroom was amazing, with a huge bath to relax in. I spent the 2 days in solitude, enrobed by the beautiful forest-like surroundings. Note that this is a retreat space and not a hotel so please read up on the place on their website. I will most definitely return.

On Tue, Aug 13 my wife and I had checked into the Phakalane resort as part of our honeymoon experience. A place for us to get away from all the noise and just spend quality time with one another.

We had selected the Mountain Hut option and absolutely loved our little space in the woods. I will admit we were initially scared upon arrival as it was pitch dark and raining, but that just added more to our experience.

Although we were running late for our Check in the host was kind enough to leave our cabin ready for us, as well as an umbrella to help with the rain which was truly appreciated.

I would definitely suggest booking here if you are looking for a wonderful little get away in the Houtbay area to unwind and recharge. Be open to new experiences like the fun walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night :) It's actually delightful despite how it might sound.

Thank you Phakalane team for the...

I spent three days in their Mountain Hut. It was a wonderful experience. Perfect for anyone needing a solo break. The room is designed beautifully and the bed is very comfortable. I also really enjoy the breakfast, it was delicious and nutritious.

Only two things I’d suggest to make the stay even better; 1) an occupancy sign outside the bathrooms. Too many opportunities for awkward run ins 😅 2) adding some small solar lights on the path to the bathrooms. Night time bathroom runs were very scary.

Other than that, I will absolutely be back for...
