Our experience at this campsite was largely affected by the season.

We originally booked in November, but due to heavy rain that weekend, we had to reschedule. The next available date was in March. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the riverbed was completely dry, which took away from the experience. Given the price we paid, I would have preferred to cancel or postpone to a better season when the river was flowing.

Another downside was the occasional unpleasant smell from the septic tank.

The biggest issue, however, was when we were packing up our tent. While removing the metal hooks securing it, we unexpectedly hit a pipe underground, causing water to leak out rapidly. This was stressful, especially with young kids (ages 3 and 4) in tow. We called the owners, who were relaxed about it and guided us on how to shut off the main pipes. While they were helpful, the situation left us wondering:

Why are water pipes so close to the surface in a campsite?

If certain areas aren’t suitable for pitching a tent, it should be clearly marked to avoid such incidents.

Overall, I’d recommend this campsite—but only when the river is flowing and with a tent pitched away from the...

We stayed for one night at Fynbos Camp. It was a private campsite with its own ablution and beautiful views. Unfortunately, my biggest disappointment was the way the owner communicated with us — her responses were rude and arrogant. I didn’t expect someone to be so abrupt when replying to simple inquiries.

Although the ablution was private, it only had walls on three sides — the fourth side was completely open, leaving no cover while showering or using the toilet. It felt awkward and was freezing cold in the morning. We weren’t aware that the shower was open, as there were no clear photos of the ablution on the website.

To make matters worse, there was no light at all — complete darkness after sunset. A single solar light could have easily solved that problem.

We won’t...

What a magical spot! And what amazing hosts! Tucked away in little forest and with all the beautiful sounds that come with it - from a stream and the vast array of birds - it is other worldly! Great amenities that make camping that much easier - big fire pit, shower, toilet, kitchen area with sinks AND electricity. And the hosts! SO thoughtful! I arrived to the most delicious locally made roosterkoek, and then was casually given a bucket of granadillas to indulge in! I am still enjoying them almost 2 weeks later! Will...

Beautiful, peaceful private campsite on a large lawn under big shady trees. Lovely neat and clean ablutions and washing up area with hot water provided by a donkey boiler. Really nice to have the place all to yourself. We enjoyed peaceful walks along the river and amongst the orchards and the little one loved the swing as well. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you Sarah and family for your hospitality!
