Gran Hotel Balneario — Hotel in Baños de Montemayor

We took the Spa circuit (jacuzzi, showers/sprays, various saunas, swimming pool) at the Montemayor Spa to try out the thermal waters. It cost 26 Euros / person for the hour plus free time swimming time in the pool at the end. We did not try the hotel, but only went for the Spa circuit.||||The experience was OK, but I am not sure that I would be motivated to repeat it, due to the non-cheap price. I also personally prefer to have free access to all the amenities, and not be ferried on a timetable from one place to another. I personally prefer to be able to choose where I go and how long I stay. The pool visit with the spring water was an exception since we could stay as long as we wanted, but even the showers in the pool area are restricted to an attendant having to turn them on. I am on the fence with this one, as to whether I would return again. It had both good and less good points.||||We were given bathing caps, and robes made of cotton but not terry cloth. We provided our own slippers and towels.||||The music in the changing rooms was distorted. Aside from that it was OK.||||The circuit consisted of several approx. 10 minute treatments for a total of an hour.||||-First we went to a jacuzzi shared poor with thermal sulfur water for 15 minutes. It was fine. The attendant was friendly.||-Next we took a couple of quick showers with the sulfur water.||-Next we did a dry, then wet, and finally a menthol breathing sauna. All of the saunas were too mild for my tastes and it almost seemed like what was the point. Apparently since the Spa is under medical supervision they put the temperature in the saunas conservatively low to prevent fainting, but for me it seemed like I hardly sweat in them. Normal saunas are hotter, which I prefer.||-Next we laid down on some ceramic lounge recliners to rest with a nice view of the vaulted stone and brick ceiling, but not much to do. People were coming and going talking, so it is not as quiet and restful as it often should be.||-We finished up being able to swim in a large sulfur water pool until closing time. I enjoyed this part, and the room is a magnificent restored Roman vaulted ceiling. The Spa has several areas with impressive old vaulted stone architecture going back to the Roman period.||||In sum, I preferred the pools and showers, but the 3 saunas were too mild in temperature for me. I also would have preferred an open circuit, instead of the programmed and time controlled visits. The big pool at the end was an exception with free swimming, and the highlight of the visit with the magnificent architecture.||||The place smells of sulfur which is like rotten eggs. However, that is why people go and shows that the waters are full of sulfur which is very good for the body, and the reason to visit. Many Spas just use chlorinated tap water, which is not healthy. Baños de Montemayor uses sulfur laden spring water, from the surrounding hills, which is much better.||||There is free parking for clients of the facility, which is helpful since parking in Montemayor is a bit tight.||||The town of Montemayor is reasonablly attractive, as is the nearby town of Hermas, with its old "Jewish" quarter. Hemos estado en este hotel durante 12 días el mes de abril de 2024, dentro del programa de TERMALISMO DEL IMSERSO y nuestra opinión, que voy a intentar explicar de la manera más objetiva posible, es que los servicios que este hotel nos ha proporcionado son de bajísima calidad. |Aunque ya lo he comentado en mi valoración sobre el Balneario de Baños Montemayor, que te recomiendo que leas antes de reservar con los programas del Imserso, vuelvo a destacar que esta es nuestra segunda experiencia en balnearios con el Imserso, el año pasado estuvimos en otro balneario y nos encantó, en este otro balneario, que prefiero omitir el nombre para que no haya malinterpretaciones, en la charla de bienvenida, un miembro del equipo dijo estas palabras: “EN NUESTRO CENTRO SE TRATA A TODAS LAS PERSONAS POR IGUAL, TANTO SI SON PARTICIPANTES DE LOS PROGRAMAS DEL IMSERSO, COMO SI SON PARTICULARES QUE NOS VISITAN POR UN DÍA.”|Yo me quedé extrañado, no podía entender que un balneario te pudiese tratar peor por ser participante de los programas del Imserso, pensaba que eso no era posible hasta que aterrizamos en el Gran Hotel Balneario de Montemayor.|Voy a intentar hacer una valoración siguiendo los puntos de la encuesta proporcionada por el mismo hotel, pero resumiendo se puede decir que respecto a su nombre comercial “GRAN HOTEL”, si alguna vez fue grande, hace muchos años que dejó de serlo y en cuanto a lo de hotel de tres estrellas, he estado hospedado en muchos hostales muchísimo mejores. Se trata de un edificio de los años 20, (1920), que se encuentra en un estado de conservación regular y con grandes carencias.|Esta es mi valoración detallada de este hotel:|- HABITACIÓN: (1 sobre 5)|El tamaño de nuestra habitación estaba bien pero las camas eran incómodas porque los colchones eran muy viejos y además el cubrecolchón era de estos que tienen plástico en su interior como los que se utilizan para los niños. La limpieza era muy deficiente, (adjunto foto del suelo del baño lleno de pelos).|Lo peor de la habitación es que la ventana no cerraba bien y entraba todo el aire, (algo que también pasaba en las habitaciones de otras personas con las que hicimos amistad) y a pesar de estar en el mes de abril, los días 23-24 hizo bastante frío con temperaturas nocturnas de 4 grados y la calefacción estaba apagada. (a medianoche tuvimos que sacar dos mantas del altillo del armario).|- ATENCIÓN POR PARTE DEL PERSONAL DEL HOTEL: (3 sobre 5)|Las camareras del restaurante eran muy amables, pero en cuanto al servicio de recepción no puedo decir lo mismo, porque presentamos la queja por la ventana que no cerraba y no solucionaron el problema, ni nos dijeron nada más sobre el incidente.|- RESTAURANTE: (1 sobre 5).|Esto es con diferencia lo peor que te vas a encontrar si reservas en este hotel, resumiendo utilizan productos de muy baja calidad (verduras congeladas, pescados de muy baja calidad, carnes de las más baratas, preparaciones rápidas, segundos platos que llegan fríos a la mesa, en la comida del mediodía no te incluyen fruta en el postre como opción, (adjunto una foto de unas espinacas con gambas de la comida del último día para que os sirva de ejemplo). |Básicamente os puedo decir que tras comer durante 11 días en este sitio el problema no era qué plato, de los que podías elegir era el mejor si no que plato elijo para no equivocarme “Y TE EQUIVOCABAS SIEMPRE”. |El comedor funciona como el comedor de un colegio, comida a las 2 y cena a las 9, el comedor estaba lleno (sobre 170 personas), todos los comensales éramos del Imserso y en una hora nos habían dado de comer a todos. Opino que por ser mayores y participantes de los programas del Imserso no se nos puede dar este trato, en 11 días no nos dieron ningúna vez algo tan simple como un filete de ternera, ni tan siquiera un muslo de pollo asado al horno con patatas. |La sensación es que estabas alojado en una de esas residencias para mayores que vemos en los medios donde se come tan mal, en lugar de estar en un hotel y no es porque no sepa lo que es comer fuera de casa, ya que en los 70 estuve 10 años interno en colegios públicos y la comida era muchísimo mejor que la...

Between the fairly old clientele headed for their spa or soak and the general feel of the hotel and town, it seems like you’ve fallen into a nice time warp taking you back a few decades.||The service and food were both very good.
