Long and detailed feedback ahead!
Parking & check in: We stayed at the sanctuary from June 19th 2021 for 3 nights. We arrived around 11pm on a Saturday with our rental car. There’s no need to book a parking spot as there’s a huge parking area you can’t miss. You just get a ticket at the machine which the hotel reception or information desk at the parking lot have to validate during office hours so you can drive in and out with the same ticket for 4€ per stay. Should you arrive after office hours there’s a number at the reception door which you can call to check in.
Room: We booked an executive double room with breakfast. The room was basic and you have to make up your own bed but it had all amenities we needed (fan, small tv, towels, bathroom with shower gel & toilet paper, no soap though!). Free wifi is available. We didn’t use the fan much as we kept the window in the room and bathroom open day & night and used a mosquito zapper as a precaution during the night. The beds were really comfy and it’s super quiet during the night. Haven’t had such a relaxed sleep in a long time! Our room was on the 1st floor of the main building overlooking the back area. Towels are exchanged & rooms cleaned every 3 days I believe.
Food: We only tried the breakfast which consists of good coffee or tea/cocoa, orange juice (not fresh), yogurt, muesli, jam, 2 slices of toasted bread with olive oil/tomatoes/cheese/ham (pan amb oli) and a small croissant. Nothing fancy but enough for us.
Pool: Amazing, situated by the botanical garden, great for swimming laps. Check if the pool is operating, as it opened on June 19th, always from 10am-6pm. There’s a small kiosk for drinks & snacks, as well as a toilet. A lounge costs 4€ per person. But there are plastic chairs available for free.
General: Weekends are quite busy with tourists visiting the Sanctuary and the Sunday market. The pool was also quite packed with families. All that changes once the weekend ends. It gets really empty and quiet which is super relaxing.
There are vending machines with water & soft drinks which only take coins, so have some ready if you get thirsty at night. A 0.5 bottle of water was for 1.80€. It’s much cheaper to buy it at the shop.
There’s a small shop with baking goods, water and other snacks (limited opening hours so check ahead) as well as a pharmacy. There’s another shop with local specialties and fruits at the main gate plus restaurants and cafés.
We really enjoyed our stay here. We don’t need a fancy room but like it relaxing and quiet, away from the tourist spots and in the beautiful Tramuntana mountains. We were doing day trips most of the day and ate out then so it didn’t bother us not to have many restaurants around. The breakfast could be better but what to expect for...
Read moreI’m sorry, but staying here was a big mistake. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the rooms are clean and, despite the lack of air conditioning, well equipped, and the area around Santuari is picturesque, all these positives are incredibly undermined by the local cuisine and the attitude and performance of the staff.
My partner and I arrived at the end of October, so after the main tourist season. Still, I would have expected professional behavior and respect for a guest who is happy to pay for good service. It’s worth noting that we planned to travel around the whole of Mallorca, so we had already seen quite a bit. This stop was by far the most expensive—and definitely the worst.
To be specific: When a waiter brings a bottle of wine, he should ask who will be tasting it. Instead, he poured it for me automatically, even though in our couple, my partner is the wine expert. At another table, he sealed a bottle of red wine with a cork, which is simply not done with red wine. If you order a starter and a main course for dinner, you are apparently expected to make do with one set of cutlery. We didn’t expect that, so we left our cutlery on the plate after the starter. The waiter took the cutlery off the plate, placed it on the table, and carried the plates away. We had to ask for new cutlery and endure another disapproving look for daring to ask. The serving itself looked more like the waiter throwing the plate on the table as if tossing a bone to a dog. Absolutely all the food you’ll eat here comes from pre-made products. There’s zero culinary craftsmanship or care involved. This was obvious even at breakfast, where not only were many items simply unavailable because the staff couldn’t keep up, but the freshness of some foods was also highly questionable. Birds are constantly flying around in the restaurant area, directly above the food and your heads, which I find extremely unhygienic. The entire breakfast buffet layout made absolutely no sense, so my partner and I were running back and forth, ending up with a chaotic experience and people bumping into each other. And throughout all of this, the staff looks at you as if you’re worthless, clearly bored and unwilling to be there. The main goal seems to be for you to pay and leave.
Summary: A beautiful place in a beautiful setting, but the price is nowhere near justified by the quality you’d expect. It’s an ideal spot for a short half-day trip, but definitely not for an...
Read moreLocation, location, location is by far the best aspect of Sanctuari de Lluc. It's stunning and well worth a stay. However, I'm here now in October, weather is sunny, warm and perfect temperature for an active holiday, I'm here cycling. Having read the reviews I confirm just one fan in the room would not be adequate in the scorching summer heat. I'm in the main building so no problem with smells as some here have mention but been here 3 nights and no sign of room service yet to clean the room. My initial concern was no lock on the door, I felt very unnerved by this despite traveling alone all the time without a problem and during an exceptionally windy night it blew open and scared the living daylight out of me 😱. No fire safety instructions in the room, in fact no information whatsoever eg meal times, opening times etc. Plug sockets not working although I managed to find 2 in the room that did work. I selected mountain view and considering I only paid £66 per night, booked in March early so consider this an amazingly great price but room extremely basic. Good aspects, plenty of hot water, very comfy bed with memory foam mattress, lovely view and airy with 3 windows to open, on the top floor. I can hear children playing but it's not loud enough to be a nuisance and here in October it's peaceful. Pool is still open, must be due to weather still warm enough. Breakfast is decent enough, continental and enough choice to get by. Fresh and plenty of it. No extra options available and whilst the breakfast room is big enough to cater for guests as it's the evening and lunch dining area, I was often sitting at a dirty table as staff weren't cleaning and relaying for guests. It's a shame there is also NO GUEST LOUNGE to relax in at the end of an evening and rooms so small and basic your not wanting to spend any more time there than is necessary. Overall it's a good stay for a short break but things could be improved,...
