First time i don't know how to start my review - it's bad as you can imagine. I've pinned this restaurant to go after i read some reviews and see pictures of the place. With high expectations i took my husband and went there with hunger in my stomach and explain him how great would be this restaurant. Reached the restaurant, parked the car, read the menu outside and placed ourselves at the entrance for meeting "the lady" greeting us. It says "Fully booked" on a board card at the entrance, but when seeing the tables, empty. One couple was sitting and some kids playing at "the pool" (indoor lake , trying to bring a high flavor for the restaurant). "Do you have a reservation?" the "lady" asks..No, but we plan to have a quick lunch (7 o'clock) for half an hour - my answer...My guess you know the answer by now.."the restaurant it's fully booked" (for German and English people only). Guess what "lady" - i speak 7 languages!! Do you know German and English people speak more than one, two languages??? I could "enjoy" this evening at your restaurant if i had started to speak to you in German and not in YOUR language, spanish (my great mistake that i tried to give you the respect to speak in your own language). I feel gross when thinking this would be a respectful restaurant where we will enjoy a delightful meal and to got a day to remember. Otherwise, this will be a restaurant that will not recommend for people with an open mind. No one else should be so disrespectfully treated as we were this evening. As an first impression it wasn't even a classy restaurant, but something in a forgotten place (middle of nowhere after driving on a beautiful path between mountains) with a lot of signs to redirect you to a restaurant that is not welcoming you (the sign will fully booked restaurant is down stairs, and not at the entrance for you to see (next to the menu). So again misleading customers it's another strategy they use to "catch" english and german clients. "Lady" i wish that you will receive the same "treatment" when visiting my country or when you are in vacation in another country than yours. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone that has a different nationality than German or English, and don't make a reservation first. Don't bother to make a detour to get there, don't be impulsive, it's in vain, and you will be dissapointed. To invite me kindly and I will not revisit this restaurant ever. This behavior should not be...
Read moreBeautiful setting at the end of a picturesque drive ( road from Inca to Lluc monastery), perfectly decorated interiors making it worth a one hour drive. We made a reservation online and there was euro20 reservation fee ( charged only if you don't show up or cancel with less than 6 hours notice). Truly beautiful setting, wonderful ambiance, excellent service. The food...... fresh but very blah, lacks spices or even salt. You have to ask for salt& peppers ( you get a surprised look and then salt &pepper shakers clearly coming from the kitchen - still in a supermarket plastic bottle , the pepper one was in pepper mill that was not working). Calamari were perfectly grilled but lacked salt or any spices and had this sleazy membrane inside that was not removed. Baked cod was fresh and baked, that's all I can say. Hot liver salad that was on an appetizer menu was good , the portion was huge, an equivalent of an entree rather than an appetizer . Can be a meal on its own. Perfect for sharing. Grilled artichokes, also from a starter menu, came beautifully presented and in a large portion ( 4 large pieces), perfect for sharing or can be a full meal for a vegetarian. Aside from a desert ( crumbled brownie in chocolate ice cream, served in a vine glass), the food was not memorable,) the setting and ambiance were. We came for food and it was a mistake. Come on a special occasion or bring the date, enjoy the whole setting and the service. Order wine, appetizer to share and individual deserts, and you will have a perfect time. To be fare, we have not tried any of the meat dishes, those from the grill may be good. Perhaps we will return to try those. It is a pricy place ( our dinner of two starters, two entrees, two coffee, one desert, one bottle of mineral water came to euro120). Many previos comments say that the place is overpriced for the quality of food. I agree that the food is not superb but the maintenance of the grounds, interiors, plenty of serving staff doesn't come for free. The whole experience is worth...
Read moreWe went there for lunch. Beautiful setting, 6 minutes from the Lluc Monastery in the Tramuntana mountains. The main attraction is the natural pond where you can swim before or after your meal. Cool, refreshing water! Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of Covid 19 they have changed the dining options to a "Menú del Día" which does not offer value for money: €33 per adult and €15 per child. The adult menu includes main course and dessert, that's it! No option to change an appetizer/entrée for a dessert...and entrées are not inexpensive...average of 12€. Beverages not included...the children's Menú consists of one "croqueta" a generous portion of breaded chicken with roasted potatoes and an ice-cream. They were gracious at our request, to exchange the chicken for chops as we had promised them to our grandson. I ordered the chops as well, and couldn't but notice that my portion was very similar to my grandson's...despite having been told that the main course portions would be "generous". My husband ordered the roasted shoulder of lamb, which was a good size, beautifully cooked, and came with a boiled potato and salad! No salad with my chops... We ordered a rosé and fizzy water with our meal. The sommelier offered us four choices, two Mallorcan and two French. We chose the Mallorcan one from Binissalem which turned out to be priced at €23 (retails in supermarkets at €4,50)... WARNING: if you are allergic to bees or wasps avoid going there during the month of August. Despite their efforts in controlling them (we saw one trap and they put some smoke producing deterrents on tables) we were accosted by these insects throughout our meal...
All in all, the new prices make Es Guix one of the most expensive restaurants in Mallorca...we are not sorry we went, because of the experience of swimming in the natural pond but at these new prices...we cannot but feel it was...
