An honest review||Just returned from a 4 night break at this hotel. Solo traveller.||||Pros||Location in a very quiet part of Majorca. Mostly restaurants in the local area & only found one bar open.||Mostly Polish holidaying here & a few English but I like to meet a mix of nationalities.||Reception staff very helpful & supply maps of local area & advise on places to visit.||Spar supermarket locally (closed on Sundays), there is another Spar at the other side of the local Kaikuana beach (10 mins walk) or a larger supermarket in the port area.||Hotel does not offer a currency exchange service. Local bank is a 20 minute walk away or ATM machines in the local area & at the port.||Hotel is clean, staff are friendly but very overworked!||Spectacular views of the lighthouse from the hotel, I have taken many sunrise pictures.||Pool area - clean, tidy, on average around 6-10 people sunbathing at pool area each day, so no issues with sunbeds. Sunbeds are very hard & uncomfortable & could do with being replaced.||Pool bar - drinks are reasonably priced, around 3 euros for a pint of lager & around 6 euros for a cocktail, can recommend the Sangria!||Room - clean & tidy - room cleaned daily & fresh towels provided. Beds comfortable, free WIFI (signal drops in & out). Bathroom, the toilet too close to sink, your knees are touching the sink!||Hotel offers bed & breakfast or Half board only, no All Inclusive option.||Can highly recommend the walk to the lighthouse - this will take around 4 hours as you have to walk round the entire port & through the wooded area, there is a lovely beach here for a nice pit stop, its a flat walk and best to do this on a cloudier day.||||Cons||There is dog sh*t everywhere on the pavements in the local area which really lets this resort down.||Not enough staff, one bar person, pool bar opens at 10 & inside bar only opens in the evening (even when we had a day of monsoon weather), they did not open the inside bar.||No snack bar, they sell crips & ice cream at the pool bar but best off purchasing snacks from local supermarket.||FOOD - I booked this resort based on very good food reviews in August, obviously the hotel was a lot busier. When I visited the hotel was around quarter of the capacity.||THE FOOD WAS THE BIGGEST LET DOWN - LUKEWARM, EVEN IF YOU ARRIVE WHEN THE RESTAURANT OPENS FOR BREAKFAST & DINNER. EVERYTHING IS STONE COLD & NOT REPLENISHED & I HAD AN UPSET STOMACH FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER EATING THERE. So I mainly stuck to toast & pastries for breakfast & salad & cold meats for dinner. TOWARDS THE END OF MY STAY I ATE OUT IN THE EVENING AS THE FOOD WAS INEDIBLE (avoid the lasagne slop). I understand the hotel was not at full capacity but this is no excuse!||I would not stay here again due to the food & many other of the travellers here...
Read moreLiked · The location was great (it is like 10-15 minutes away from the beach, and 5-7 minutes aways from SPAR and other "shops" where you can buy so many things (sunscreen, clothes, gifts, etc). It is also close to the bus stop (we saw many buses, for example to Porto Cristo). Breakfast and dinner were very tasty, there were plenty of options one can choose from. (Maybe information for future guests, during your pre-paid dinner you have to pay for drinks (even for water). I would highly recommend to book your stay with breakfast/dinner. Swimming pool was good (it also has a part for small kids (water is like 50cm deep), for adults, the water is 210cm). There is enough sunbeds, so you do not have to worry about not having one and there is no need to "reserve" them in the morning. The staff was amazing, nice and friendly, however, English level was in many cases poor. But again, they were all really great. Rooms have a great view (if you facing towards the sea or port).
Disliked · You have to pay for the Internet, safe, kettle, TV remote (maybe even more). During our stay, the elevator was not working properly (some days, it was not working at all). Rooms were smelly (we did not find the source of the smell even though we tried to look for it almost everyday). The bar which is supposed to be open from 6pm to the midnight is not really opened at 6pm. We have been there every evening, waiting for staff to open the bar, usually, they open it at 10pm and then close it around 11pm. Near the bar, you have the possibility to go out and sit in front of the hotel, with the stunning view - lighthouse. However, there are limited seats (there are only 3 tables, so be quick, if you do not want to sit on rocks). You can park you car in front of the hotel, however, DO NOT PARK your car at yellow line (you will get a fine - if you get a fine, you can pay it at the bank). Also, parking near hotel in the evening is hardcore, because the parking is on the street and there are so many people trying to park. What I would recommend is to try park you car...
Read moreA 2 star hotel at best. 1 star for being a hotel and 1 star for fooling Tripadvisor. |Where should I start. Lets go with the good points-|Reception staff were helpful.|View from our balcony was stunning at sunset and looking over to the lighthouse|The bad points|The restaurant - always cold regardless if it was breakfast or evening meal, bland food, chicken/beef/pork casserole tasted the same every day, little choice. We even had the misfortune of sitting at a laid table only to be barked at by the waitress(Sara)that we shouldn’t sit there. When I confronted her and pointed out it should be cordoned off, she shook her fists and stormed off- 10/10 comedy value though.|A glass of water is 2 euros. If you want ice at the bar to take to your room, it’s 1 euro per cup.|The room. Small but comfortable. Very basic. No fridge etc(that’s why I asked for ice). Beds were single put up beds on wheels so if you were lucky enough to get a Cwtch, you ended up falling through the middle- no pun intended. Slightly reminiscent of the overlook hotel from the shining.|The pool. Bit small as they’ve segregated a third of it with chrome railings so kids can play in it. No pool towels. You have to bring your own. Never saw any kids at the hotel. The maintenance guy also kicks you out of the pool area at 7 so he can clean.|No real sports facilities unless you want to play table tennis with flat ping pong ball or tennis with 1 tennis ball. ||All in all, possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. |Would I come to Portocolom again. Yes I would as it’s a lovely place and if you hire a car, there is so much on your doorstep you can visit.||Would I stay at the BV Bellevue Balsana again. |I think not.|Should you? Play the lottery.
