Pensión Úbeda - Fuenmayor La Rioja — Hotel in Fuenmayor

I was traveling for 6 hours so decided to stay overnight rather than leave early as be tired for my meeting. Booked this place for 25 euro and got a single run with share bathroom.||It's easily found above a cafe and the staff are helpful.||The room was better than expected. Clean, tidy and came with TV, lamp, plenty of draws and a fan. Also a bonus for shall single rooms, plenty of sockets.||The share bathroom was also clean and tidy with stock of toilet roll, shower gel, etc. However it has two oddities, the toilet is on a step which is odd and there's a window in the shower. On, it's looking at a wall and any peeping Tom easily spotted but still odd.||During my stay in unsure if anyone was on my floor but I had no issues with sounds or accessing the facilities.||The negatives? Minor and not all the fault of the premises. WiFi wouldn't work, connected but nothing would load. Possible my phone, I had 4g so wasn't bothered. The shower pressure was ok, not great and the holder was loose. Again a minor issue. In the room there's no a/c however it's not advertised so that's my fault for presuming. Just be forewarned if you struggle to sleep when it's hot. Lastly, there's a security light in all the rooms, a ask green one but I don't like anything but complete darkness when I'm sleeping.||Suggestion: only a suggestion, move the locker to one side and put the bed beside the wall for more space.||Overall the negatives are too minor to outweigh what is an excellent value for money location. My first experience was ok. Room was fine but I was met by grumpiness because I arrived at 6:30pm due to my ferry being delayed. Obviously, I apologised profusely and had to wait 20min for someone to turn up to let me in.

I thought it would be easier and familiar to book again on my circuit route back after 3months. All I can say is it is worth paying €65 cancellation fees just to get some peace. I’ve never been hassled so much by incessant automated and personal emails and WhatsApp messages. Provided photos of my passport and everything short of my dna before I even arrived. My credit card should suffice before turning up and the rest you do on arrival, like everywhere else. If I don’t show, take your fee. Instead I was met by rudeness. No way will I put up with that so I would rather arrange alternative accommodation and pay cancellation fees than to knowingly turn up to unpleasantness.

On the plus side, I found a lovely hotel 5km away, Hotel San Camilo who were warm, welcoming and above all, professional. The rooms are much better and it’s the same price. I would highly recommend.

Pension Ubeda, please reevaluate your automated system - it can lead to feeling quite harassed for simply booking a room for the night. Also, might be wise to work on your tact. I don’t know anyone who would pay for unpleasantness. You are not doing customers a favour, they are paying...
