Stayed one night while cycling the Camino del Norte. Was looking forward to a swim after a hard day in saddle but sadly there was no water in what looked like a dark pit, and it was hard to imagine it every looking like the photo promoted by the B&B. Room was fine - very quiet. Food was poor. As a vegetarian, choices were non existent so chose the 15E cheeseboard which was little bits of hacked up cheeses - piled onto a board in different shapes, some with rind on, others rind off as though the person preparing was not sure how to serve it - very uninspiring and way over priced in comparison with local restaurants. Salad was a prepacked bag of leaves- some of which had wilted and were inedible. The Spanish family next to us left virtually everything untouched but the staff didn't remove the untouched plates which seemed odd as other guests were seeing this and wondering. Staff were friendly and trying but it did seem that they were out of their depth with the dining experience. Breakfast involved a tick chart (C-19) but not everything ticked appeared on the table. There was a good fruit bowl though. Overall, it was adequate but didn't compare favourably with other places we stayed. I'm sure C-19 has had a negative impact on income, as it has everywhere and this place could be a wonderful oasis but just...
Read moreMy friends and I arrived at O Muiño de Pena after a long day of hiking on the Camino de Santiago. We were tired and sore, but we were also excited to be staying at such a beautiful and charming place.
The hotel is housed in an old mill, and it has been beautifully restored. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and they all have private bathrooms.
We were well-attended by Laura who was incredibly friendly and helpful. She gave us a tour of the hotel and told us about all the amenities. She also made us feel very welcome.
We had dinner in the hotel restaurant that night, and it was one of the best meals we had on the Camino. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was excellent.
The next morning, we had a leisurely breakfast before setting off on our next leg of the Camino. We were sad to leave O Muiño de Pena, but we knew we would be back someday.
We would definitely recommend O Muiño de Pena to anyone who is planning to walk the Camino de Santiago. It is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay, and the food and service...
Read moreOur time at this place started when Teresa and Esperanza picked us up in A Rua in their white van. It was a lively short trip to the old mill. Once we arrived, it was a quick efficient and cheerful check-in, a brief tour of the premises that had a museum among the rooms and dining area. The outdoors was very pretty, bucolic, with the soothing sound of running water to complete the experience. We skipped dinner because we were so full from having a late lunch. Other travelers said it was great. Our room was pretty and quaint. It was comfortable and had adequate conveniences. We were pleasantly surprised to see they have screens on the windows. What a convenience! (Other stays along the Camino were buggy especially at night!) The breakfast the next morning was all right. After breakfast, we were brought to where we were picked up so we could resume our hike. Such an efficient operation these two...
