Farmello was our last stop of our Portuguese Camino en route to Santiago. We arrived in the evening at around 6 after our longest day walking. The lady who greeted us was not very friendly, though there may have been a slight language barrier too. The accommodation was rustic and very clean. You arrive through a cafe style lounge and ascend the wooden staircase to two dorms . ||||We were lucky on the night and there were far more men than women, thus the ladies got the dorm for 4 people as opposed to the larger dorm. The spaces were nicely minimalist and homely. There are two bathrooms with shower facilities. ||||There is a restaurant downstairs, we requested food and the landlady became friendlier at this point. We also asked about getting an earlier breakfast than 7am but this could not be accommodated. ||||I would recommend this accommodation for pilgrims but perhaps not for other travelers as there is very little around it. There is a lovely bar about 50m from the accommodation with very friendly staff :) ||||We paid €12 for the bed and approximately €9 for the dinner...
Read moreWell... 14€ for a night would be somewhat reasonable If a kitchen or at least a microwave & water boiler would be at the auberge... But since the sleeping rooms are rather big and stuffed with old beds and the food at the Restaurant is pretty expansive for how small the portions are, ... I would definately NOT recommend spending your night at this auberge, because there isn't even a supermarket nearby, only a small shop in a gas station 500m away... The bars in the same street only offer fruits, sandwiches and jambon pizza, which isn't the healthiest dinner if you are concerned about having enough energy in the next day... I think this auberge should be at a pricing range of about 6€ to max. 10€ So I definately don't recommend the auberge If you can find a bed in another one, even though it is a pretty beautiful old building with hot showers and a nice garden with plenty of possibilities to sit down in the sun...
Read moreCan't really understand the negative reviews. You're a pilgrim on the Camino and you're staying in an albergue, of course you share the restrooms with other pilgrims. The blond woman behind the desk was really attentive, friendly and helpful. She even organised cigarettes for a friend of mine. The dormitory was really okay, the price value (don't forget, you stay only a few kilometres to Santiago) was worth the stay. You can dry your clothes in the garden and sit there quite comfortable without the traffic of the street. There's a café offering breakfast, but if it's closed, it's not the responsibility of the albergue. You can easily find breakfast options on the way to Santiago in the morning. The woman was only by herself and managed to prepare good food for around 10 pilgrims. Over all, a good stay, if you want to be in Santiago...
