We booked two nights spending a pair of Smartbox and calling to them just 2 or 3 days before the check in. Their attention by phone was cosy. Easy: a quick call to give them the numbers of my smratboxs and all done. It was my fault to don't ask about parking but we planned this little trip quickly so we managed almost on the way. All the streets nearby Hotel Pinxo are empty of parking places: not in the street not a private. Ok, no problem: we parked few streets away in a blue zone (max 2h) and walked only 4 or 5 minutes.||But from then on all was horrible. There isn't an usual reception... It's little but this i not the problem. The problem is that you have to move around there and look in the bar/restaurant to find someone. Usual check-in: giving the cards of smartbox and paying the touristic fee of 1€/persona and night.||We asked about parking: "We have a parking for 15 cars not far from here: 4 o 5 minutes but I haven't the key now, someone has'nt returned it". Ok, go on.||We asked about facilities: "There are radiadors in the rooms but I don't know if they are open or not". Strange, did not they are waiting for us? Did I book correctly by phone? Ok, go on.||We opened the room and a strong smell of humidity hit us. We switched on the radiator and went out to walk and look for some place to have dinner (almost 8 pm).||We asked about our identity pass "Oh, do you need it? Of course...we are going out. A girl was using the computer and they still hadn't done the copy. We waited and recovered our identity cards. We went out to have have a walk and look for a restaurant. Finally (because it was late and cold) we returned to the restaurant of the hotel and had a dinner (it was correct. average). At 11:30pm more or less we went to our room again, expecting to find it warm. It was a refrigerator. The radiator wasn't working well. We explained this and they relocated us to a new (and more modern) room. This new room seemed to be in a new wing of the hotel. However, there weren't blinds, nor heavy curtains on the windows to cover the street light. We discovered that the bath had not curtains neither so you wet all the bathroom. we sleeped more or less hiding from the light.||||In the morning (remember, I didn't read all previous traveller comments, my fault) we expect to recover from last night experience and enjoy a good breakfast. What a mess. Breakfast consists of choosing between a sandwich, a bakery or toast. To drink you can choose between a coffe, a tea or a chocolate milk. And they serve for free a glass of orange juice. Choose! Not all: just 1 of this ... It was incredible in a 3 stars hotel as it's classified. You can imagine the second night and second breakfast (and luckily the last there): the same.||||There are no telephone on the rooms, small TV and, just a detail, there is no "don't disturb" banner to put on the door so they make the bed (only make the bed, not clean the room nor the bathroom or check the towels) while we are having breakfast downstairs.||||If you are planning to go to Santa Coloma de Farners to visit and enjoy Magma Center (highly recommended) consider booking in a nearby town. To go to Magma center you already should need your car because it is apart from town so it doesn't matter to drive 5...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night as we had an early flight from Girona next morning and the location is perfect for that. Our room was very pleasant but, and it's a big but, the food was abysmal, I mean really bad, I have never felt motivated to leave a negative review before but there is really no excuse for what they allowed to come out of that kitchen. We had, based on recommendations in the booking.com reviews booked a table for 7:30pm by email which had been confirmed. We arrived at 6:30 and were told that food would be served from 7:30, but when we came down to the bar at 7:30 we were told that they would not be serving food for another half an hour. When we returned at 8pm we were seated and we ordered the onion soup and a pork salad for starters and a roast chicken and Catalan rabbit for our mains. The salad was OK, not great but OK, but the onion soup, which says it comes with "egg and cheese toast", had a raw egg in it! I assume the egg was supposed to be poached in the soup but the soup was too cold and the egg was completely raw, the white was not even partially cooked! Then came our mains, that rabbit was, again, OK, but the chicken was so overdone as to be completely inedible, I have literally never seen a piece of meat so dried out, it can only have been roasted in advance and then microwaved for way, way too long. It was impossible to cut, let alone chew, and came only with a few very sorry for themselves patatas bravas, which I believe had also been microwaved. The staff were very polite and did knock some money off the bill, but being as one of our meals had quite literally been inedible I believe they should not have even allowed the food to leave the kitchen. As I say, I have never left a negative review before but our experience was so disgraceful I feel something has to be said. Maybe they were just having a rough night but my advice would be to stay in the hotel, but give the restaurant a very wide berth, there are plenty of other places in the town and you would really struggle to be any worse than this one. Very...
Read moreWe booked via email, directly with the hotel, a 3 days stay at a very reasonable price for the time of the year and I must say we got more than expected! A large room with comfortable beds, toilet with a bidet (I'm Italian and my wife Japanese so we really miss our bidet when abroad!) ,wifi worked well (for the joy of our teenage son) and food was really nice, with plenty of choice from the half board menu.|The night we arrived all the street around the hotel were closed to the traffic because of a concert in the nearby main square and I somehow reached the hotel but couldn't find my way out; the owner, Giuseppe, was fantastic helping me find my way to the car park, showing empathy and concern. Despite being a little late for dinner the staff was really warm and understanding.|It's a family owned business and for those 3 days, with simplicity and no frills, we felt part of the family. The staff doesn't speak English and I would say that was the bonus, because making the effort to communicate with some simple words we knew in Spanish and the few words of English Claudia, the niece of the owner, knew, made the experience more genuine and fulfilling. |By the way, the hotel has hired a person that speaks English very well because the emails I received were very well written in English and when I called a lady spoke to me fluently on the phone.|I really recommend this hotel to those who travel with their heart open and want to live a true Catalan experience, so rare in our aseptic...
