Chalet Bilbao-Aeropuerto

A great last minute stay, within close proximity to the airport.

After spending 9 hrs in Bilbao airport, due to a cancelled flight by easyJet and then a promise of rearranged flights that never came to fruition, we were left seeking local accommodation for the night at very short notice.

We found Chalet Bilbao-Aeropuerto and were able to book our reservation for the night, even though it was 9.30pm.

Our host, Gerard communicated with us immediately via WhatsApp to check our eta and confirm all relevant details.

The taxi ride from the airport was approx 10mins and cost €22.

On arrival we messaged Gerard to obtain entry, he greeted us and gave us a tour of the property.

We were located on the second floor, in room 5. Which consisted of a private, secure bedroom with two twin beds and one single. We had ample storage space. Bedding clean and comfortable. Fan provided in room for use.

WiFi was provided and connectivity was excellent.

We had access to a shared bathroom on our floor (shared only with one room, room 4), which on this occasion was empty.

We were supplied with two fresh towels. The bathroom had a wc, basin, shower, and toiletries; such as shampoo, soap, shower gel were provided. There was also a high quality hairdryer available for use.

The communal areas were well presented. There are designated shelves within the kitchen for each of the 5 rooms.

Check out was 11am. Prior to vacating Gerard had messaged to see if we required any additional assistance.

We required a taxi into Bilbao centre, rather than arranging a taxi he himself took us by car, which we greatly appreciated.

Gerard went above and beyond, he was personable and attentive.

I must admit that reading through some of the reviews I started having second thoughts. Someone was mentioning a hairy bed and that was the first thing I was looking at,didn’t spot a single hair. Other than that someone was mentioning that the place is not as close to the airport as I claims to be. The place is 10 minutes away drive but one hour and 20 walking (do we not do any research prior booking?) Some of the rooms share a bathroom between them which puts you at chance depending on who are the other guests but they offer options of your own bathroom. For someone that has slept in hundreds of accommodation in the past,even tho I wasn’t so lucky in terms of the other guests that I shared the bathroom with (again this could be avoided by spending a few extra euros and have a bathroom to yourself) the hosts were amazing and everything went super smooth. Mala experiencia. Reservamos el alojamiento directamente con Gerard, porque nos dijo que si lo hacíamos así en lugar de através de por booking, nos regalaba el taxi de vuelta al aeropuerto el día de salida. Le avisamos de la hora en la que llegaríamos al chalet y nos dijo que le avisáramos al llegar y listo. Cuando nos presentamos en la ubicación y tratamos de contactar con él tiene el móvil apagado y no recibe mensajes de WhatsApp. Eran casi las 12 de la noche, no había manera de contactar con él y estábamos en la calle. En la casa había otros huéspedes, que no hablaban español y a los que despertamos pidiéndole ayuda para localizar al anfitrión y que nos entregara las llaves de nuestra habitación para poder entrar. Nos dieron el teléfono de otra persona, supuestamente la encargada de recibir a los huéspedes mientras Gérard estaba de vacaciones. Un detalle que se les olvidó avisarnos. Esta segunda persona encargada nos pidió X cantidad por bizum para terminar de pagar el alojamiento y se lo hicimos así. El taxista, para nuestra sorpresa, fue un taxi ilegal y con la "L" puesta. Al dejarnos en el aeropuerto el chico nos empezó a mandar WhatsApp reclmandonos el pago del trayecto, porque Gérard tampoco le había dicho que se lo pagaba él... Para terminar, 15 horas después de haber dejado el alojamiento, recibimos WhatsApp reclamándonos 20€, que dicen que faltan del precio. Hemos descubierto que el anfitrión inicial aumentó el precio del alojamiento para meter el precio del taxi y hacernos creer que era un detalle por su parte.

Un desastre. La casa es preciosa pero los momentos de angustia y tensión que nos ha hecho vivir le quitan todo el mérito. De parte de Gérard, solo hemos recibido un "ha sido culpa mia" por whatsapp. No os hospedéis allí si no queréis que os acusen de morosas y...
