Hotel Alta Garrotxa — Hotel in Tortellà

Photos of the hotel exterior on the web make it look more gloomy than it is, located as it is in a narrow and not completely obvious street in the old part of Tortella. Parking's available in various places nearby, most obviously down some steps adjoining a park at the end of Carrer Sant Joan. Rooms were smart, clean and, helpful at this time of year, air-conditioned. There's a lift if you need it and free wifi. A couple of points to watch for. 1. Reception may be closed although the front door's unlocked and non-Catalan/Spanish speakers may not realise you need to call one of the phone numbers on a typed notice to get someone along to check you in. We were told someone would turn up 'in two minutes' and they did, so no problem. 2. Although there's a good buffet breakfast you need to know the hotel restaurant's not open every evening. The day we stayed the only other option in Tortella was the Casino Bar/Restaurant a few minuytes walk away. It looks basic but is actually a very pleasant place to eat and drink outside under the trees in...

Hostal en caída libre. Lo conocí hace unos 20 años. Entonces estaba todo impecable y así se mantuvo mientras PALMIRA, la propietaria lo regentaba. Sencillo pero con todo lo necesario partiendo de la limpieza. El desayuno era sencillo pero variado y el servicio muy atento. Palmira se hizo mayor y cedió la explotación a la actual empresa y con ella vino el desastre. Hemos estado alguna vez más en los últimos meses y siempre peor que la anterior. La limpieza más que básica. Las habitaciones estaban heladas y no se podía poner la calefacción. La del baño, un simple radiador estaba cerrada y con paciencia y algo de fuerza se pudo poner en marcha. No así la de la habitación. Tras una espera más allá de lo normal, tuvimos que buscar al recepcionista que estaba tranquilamente cenando sin atender el timbre. Le oímos decir a la camarera que ya saldría al terminar de cenar y al manifestarle que ya nos esperaban y que teníamos prisa, salió a atender nuestra preocupación por el frío que hacía en la habitación y para que "se estirase" un poco y pusiera gel para dos personas y no para una como había. Lo cierto es que al llegar el aire acondicionado funcionaba y la habitación estaba cálida. Por la mañana bajamos a desayunar (presunto bufet de 8.00 a 10.00 h). Digo presunto porque solo el pan era bueno. El resto comenzando por el Jamón, malo de solemnidad. El "embutido" se limitaba a unas ruedas de butifarra blanca, jamón de york que mejor era dejarlo donde estaba y queso en lonchas de baja calidad. Bebida solo agua. Al pedir mantequilla y mermelada se limitaron a sacar mantequilla (2 raciones individuales) y mermelada exclusivamente de algo que parecía fresa en un tarro bastante grande que ofrecía más bien poca garantía sanitaria. En cuanto al precio para estar en una habitación de un hotel básico de 2 estrellas (con baño individual, eso sí) con servicio, con una habitación fría hasta que te quejas -si el recepcionista a accedido a interrumpir su cena- y con un desayuno-bufet tercermundista (el peor que he probado jamás) es carísimo.
