Mount Rose 44 — Hotel in Galle

Location:
||The guesthouse is in a secluded area up a hill approx 15-30min drive from Galle depending on traffic but cheap enough in a tuk tuk around 500-700 rupees depending on the time of day/night (£2-£3) which the owner can arrange easily for you.||||

Facilities:
||The WiFi in the room worked fine, aircon was ok, there was a TV as advertised but it didn’t work. 
There unfortunately wasn’t hot water for showering in the mornings & the tank was next to our room which was very noisy as was used a lot for other things.

||||Staff:
||The owner was helpful & appeared to be passionate about his guests.||||

Housekeeping:
||This was our biggest issue which is such a shame to say as it really let the place down as it ruined our stay which meant we had to leave. ||
The rooms was invested with ants, we found quite a few cockroaches IN THE BED (big & small which is usually a sign of more) - we did raise this as a concern so was moved but the next room had the exact same issues again so we checked behind/under the bed which is where we found a very old dried out dead lizard, lots of dust, used cigarettes end. ||The bathroom had lots of damp on the walls & ceiling. ||The fridge had also not been cleaned out as had old water bottles in it from previous guests. ||We had to cut our stay short due to cleanliness as we did not feel comfortable staying here any longer.
 ||Also, our washing was sent off for the cost of roughly 4500 rupees (£20) which has been the most expensive during our whole trip but we thought it must be a good service due to the price - when it was returned there was some designer items of clothing that was completed damaged/ruined where the colour from other items had leaked & they had also kept our clothing wash bag!

||We was offered breakfast daily which was ok fresh fruit, juice etc. Dinner was also ok.||||

Decor:
||The grounds are nice, interesting layout. ||||

Overall:
||Upon arrival we was told our room wasn't ready, we was a bit annoyed as it was late in the afternoon but thought at least when we return the room will be well presented... this was not the case at all as we had paid for a deluxe suite but was actually given a smaller room which was CRAWLING with thousands of ants all over the toilet so it had not been cleaned at all that afternoon, the room also was full of the owners belongings in all of the drawers & cupboards. After a long tiring day we just wanted to relax but after finding a huge cockroach under our pillows, then more on the floor we could not sleep all night as could hear other things in the room which really unsettled us.||Cleaning is clearly only being done on the surface which seems isn't done by an actual cleaner. ||After raising all these issues we was moved to another room, we gave the owner benefit of doubt as he was very friendly & seemed genuine, however the next room had even bigger cockroaches that scurried across the bed then flew at us, then we found more in the room under the mattress. The fridge had also been used by previous guests.||Disappointed by the issues we faced which could of easily been prevented as this completely ruined our stay which therefore meant we had to leave & find somewhere else to stay...

Terrible Experience, Not Recommended

I am extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. We decided to stay here on a as we were heading to Galle, but it turned out to be a huge mistake. We booked for three people, and after my husband dropped us off, he had to wait for nearly two hours before leaving. The hotel owner, a lady, was incredibly rude and argumentative about it, even saying that her mother and husband didn’t like having him there. This was just for two hours—not even for the whole night! Why couldn’t they just be polite and accommodating for such a short time?

We are paying customers, and all we wanted was to relax and have a comfortable stay. The situation only got worse from there. Every time we wanted to leave or enter, we had to call them to open the gate. At night, we asked if we could order food, and they said they couldn’t open the door for us. This was ridiculous. It felt more like a university hostel than a hotel.

When it was time to check out, they were told to leave by 11:00 AM. We checked out at 11:30 AM, and they charged us an extra 1500 LKR for those extra 30 minutes. The owner’s husband insisted that they would charge the same amount even if we stayed just five minutes past check-out. This is outrageous and shows a complete lack of understanding of hospitality and customer service.

I have stayed at many luxury hotels across Sri Lanka, and I never expected such poor service and 1st they have to study hospitality management.. they do whatever they want, without considering guest comfort or satisfaction. We stayed at Villa Mount Rose for 1 night and the stay was excellent. The villa is built on top of a very peaceful hill in which the environment is quiet, calming and it provides a lot of privacy. Inside the villa and the pool area is beautiful, especially at night with the lights. The pool was very clean and there is also a dining area right beside it which looks pristine. ||||When we arrived as a family from Canada, we were greeted politely by the staff. The food and drinks that we were served to us was also delicious. The owner later visited to greet us during the afternoon and he also happened to be very kind and polite to all of us. We stayed at the room which was right to the left as you enter. The quality of the room met and exceeded my expectations as I am someone from North America so I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting from there. There was even a hotel branded soap, shaving kit, shampoo and much more waiting for us when we arrived in the room, not to mention the bedding was done beautifully. The interior wooden design of the room also looked very alluring. ||||Overall, Villa Mount Rose is a beautiful place and I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling from anywhere offshore.
