SC Galle — Hotel in Galle

We travelled around Sri Lanka for 3 weeks and ended with a week in The Maldives. These reviews reflect the whole experience in terms of accommodation costs, VFM, facilities, hosting, location etc across our holiday but also with a nod to other accommodation worldwide.||We booked SC Galle via Booking.com and at that time, there were no reviews on TA, but the cost vs faciities advertised were just a no brainer. We did receive emails from the accommodation who provided information regarding transfers and breakfasts. They provided bank details and also said we could pay in advance, if we wished. The tone and nature of the email was a little pushy to me, and got my 'back up a little', however, when we later met the couple, I think this is just their way. Before arrival we were checking on details on booking.com and noted it said swimming lessons available, which I thought was a little odd, as we thought we were staying in a little B&B with pool. ||We arrived in Galle via a Tuk Tuk from Matare town - so we had to ask for directions to SC Galle. No one could tell us where it was and we were driving around the neighbourhood for nearly an hour. We tried to phone SC Galle but could not get through. Eventually, I saw a sign which said SC Galle swimming pool up a hill, off the main road. We went up the steep hill and found the pool and were welcomed by a couple, at the swimming pool complex. (which explained the lessons). We were shown to our room, which is on the ground floor and attached to the main building. The room was very clean and as portrayed on B.com photos. The shower and toilet were also very clean. However, there is no fridge, no flat screen TV and no kettle - all advertised facilities on B.com. There is however, a 25 metre, 6 lane open air swimming pool, to use, which is very good. There may be others using it as well, as it is a pool open for public use. ||The couple who run this are German, and friendly but may need to reconsider their business priorities. We were told a number of times that the swimming pool was their business and they may not be able to provide services to us. They need to realise the accommodation is a business as well. ||The location is good - 10 min bus ride from Galle and the bus ride was an experience. The hill is steep and some may find it difficult to climb - but Tuk Tuks will take you up there. We asked for a kettle and were eventually given a scabby kettle with mugs. At the end of our stay, we asked if we could get a transfer to the train station, we were told by Jacquie that if they weren't busy in the pool, her hubby would either take us to the station or drop us off in his Tuk Tuk at the bottom of the hill. He did take us to the station for 400 Rs and then asked us about our stay. We said that the facilities stated on B.com should reflect the actual facilities provided, and he said that he had been trying to get this amended. We also feel that the cost could be increased for the quality of accommodation but provide email, get a local cook to provide dinner options etc. He said they were trying to provide basic accommodation at cheap cost with additionals to be paid for if required. Probably the best rental experience we've had. Jackie and Igmar are responsive and helpful hosts. If we had even a hint of a question or problem, Jackie was very quick to help us figure things out. The territory of the house is very nice, in the morning we fed squirrels and birds, near the windows there are trees that create even more pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. In the kitchen and in the appartements themselves there is everything for life, and even more. The apatramenty itself is very clean and pleasant, it is noticeable that the owners put a lot of effort in taking care of the house. If we could give it more than 5 stars, we would. Don't forget to read the rules before checking in, I didn't and then asked questions that were already answered...

Hi, Appreciate your prompt response and I am so impressed that you have been analyzing both of us over a period of time. I'm not an instructor but a father who want my son to be a good swimmer. The reason why I've given you the previous rating was that I expect more cleanliness on the pool deck. As a Sri Lankan I highly value your contribution to the Galle Community giving by way of setting up a impressive pool complex. I've increased my ratings to 4 star.
