Reasons you should consider a hostel for your next trip 👇 I used to think of hostels as dorms with drinking till 3am, now I know that isn’t the case! I’ve stayed in hostels MUCH nicer than some hotels, & hotels half as nice as some hostels We stay in private rooms (almost always with private bathrooms) for multiple reasons: 💍 we’re married & I’d prefer to sleep in the same bed vs bunk beds 💰 it’s usually cheaper/the same for a private room than paying for 2 dorm-beds Some of my favorite hostels around the world: 🇲🇽 Lum Hostel - Tulum, Mexico 🇨🇴 Los Patios - Medellin, Colombia 🇹🇷 Cheers Lighthouse - Istanbul, Turkey 🇱🇰 Feel Home - Kandy, Sri Lanka Have you ever stayed in a hostel? If not - did you know private rooms were an option? I used to not know! #hostellife #hostel #budgettravel #journeyofgirls #srilanka #zanzibar #budgettraveler #hostels

We stayed here for two nights and had a great time. The guesthouse is located just outside Kandy, which makes it a perfect escape from the hectic city, while still being close enough to easily reach the centre — just a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride away. The highlight is the spacious terrace with views over the city, nature, and even the railway tracks — a charming detail. The location is ideal for visiting the botanical gardens, exploring Kandy, or planning day trips in the area. Our host, Fazly, was incredibly helpful and genuinely eager to improve his service. He gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and helped us plan a full-day tuk-tuk tour. We spent the morning in the beautiful botanical gardens, visited the market and shopping mall in the afternoon, stopped at the White Buddha for a peaceful view over the city, and ended the day with a lovely dinner in town. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully equipped. We really appreciated the little details: plenty of hangers, hooks on the wall, a large mirror, and well-placed shelves in the bathroom. It’s clear that Fazly has put a lot of care into making guests feel comfortable. Breakfast was another highlight. Every morning we enjoyed something different — fresh fruit, a fried egg, tasty coffee — served outside on the terrace. You can even opt for a Sri Lankan breakfast if you like. There’s a communal kitchen, free tea and coffee, and a cosy living room with a sofa — perfect for reading or relaxing. A wonderful place with a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Even though we arrived in Kandy by bus which was very hectic… Once we entered the gate and Fazly welcomed us we immediately felt very home! The room and the facilities are perfect. The shower in the bathroom was the best we had so far (been travelling for 2 weeks now and had 5 different accommodations). This hotel is very close to the city centre of Kandy, but like I said before traffic is crazy here. This could also be because there is a big event happening this weekend and a lot of people were out doing shopping. Back the Fazly,… what a kind man! I must say that his English is the best we’ve heard so far and he helped us in every best way possible. I was sad we only stayed for 1 night, I would’ve loved to get to know Fazly even better than we already did! About the facilities,… there is a kitchen which you can use including a water filter for clean drinking water (very nice!). The room came with airconditioning and very thought out furniture so you can hang your clothes or place your bag. If you have your own tuktuk you can park it behind the gate for safe parking, very nice! Actually the only thing we could complain about are the ants (only a few), but to be honest they are almost everywhere in Sri Lanka. Perhaps Fazly, if you read this, maybe there is some special stuff that keeps the ants out and than your accommodation will receive 11 out of 10 points from us. Lots of love, Tim & Meike 🇳🇱

I stayed in around 10 different places during my stay in Sri Lanka, and I can absolutely confirm that Feel Home was one of my favourites! Firstly, the rooms are immaculate and well thought out (for example, light and fan controls are by the bed, plenty of electic sockets for charging (including one with multi-national adaptor), a shelf in the shower for your shampoo, etc, seats and a table in the room. Many small things that all make a difference to the traveller.. There is a lovely communal area where you can sit, relax, read or meet some of the other guests. There is also a kitchen area where you can help yourself to tea or coffee, and to the biscuits and fresh fruit that is left out. And of course, there is the terrace with it's amazing views - the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast or their home-cooked dinners (which I recommend you do at least one night!). The breakfasts were fantastic, and changed daily.

But what really makes this place is Fazly, the host. He is not providing a hotel for you to stay in, he is providing a B&B homestay experience which he takes seriously and executes professionally. Nothing is too much trouble. He wants to do his best and asks what suggestions we have to make our stay better. In my case, he knew that I also have a small hotel and he asked me for my suggestions. Aside from one or two minor 'extras' he could add, I couldn't think of anything.

I highly recomend Feel Home for a great homestay experience - clean rooms, excellent breakfast and a wonderful host. What more could you want?

I would have happily stayed for longer if I didn't have already have plans in place.

Thanks Fazly to you and your family for a wonderful, stay where I really could Feel...
