Home away from home. I simply love this hostel. In the one month I stayed in Sri Lanka, I came back to Kandy twice for the city and to get my Indian visa. I stayed at Puncha both times. If I go back that's where I'll stay again. The hosts are like a family to me. They are generous and welcoming and really made me feel like home. The food they cook is great with highlight the amazing curries and if you're lucky the barbecues. They cooked vegetarian food for me no problem and prepared some great healthy juices also with local fruit. The hostel is definitely yoga friendly as well since they have a beautiful garden with a beautiful view where I could practice every morning. Met beautiful people and other yogis and thoroughly enjoyed both my stays there. I recommend it without hesitation and if I'm back in Sri Lanka I'm going back to Puncha again.
Oh and did I forget to mention Bruno?! I love this dog (the inspiration behind the name Puncha - meaning little...
Read moreI stayed here for two nights near the start of my Sri Lanka trip and loved it. I was welcomed by Chathu's dad on arrival with a cup of tea and biscuits (he knows the way to an English girl's heart!). The hostel area is basic but clean and the family area really friendly and helpful. The location is great. It's on the road between Kandy and the botanical gardens so it's a quick and easy bus ride to each one. The centre of Kandy is really busy and noisy so it's nice to escape to somewhere more relaxing in the evening. Being a more local neighborhood you get no hassle walking down the street. Everyone is really friendly and you can find amazing local food in the nearby eateries for really cheap. Chathu is apparently am amazing chef too but unfortunately I never got around to...
Read morePuncha Hostel was honestly the most amazing place I've ever encountered in all my years of travelling. The manager, Chathu, was a fantastic person as was his whole family. Me and my wife found lifelong friends here with them. The hostel itself is in a great location with cheap prices, comfy beds and fresh, delicious food made with love and care (Chathu used to be a professional chef). You can also find tons of fellow backpackers passing through and it's a great place to hang out and meet fun, like-minded people. If you ever pass through Kandy, don't stay anywhere else. This place is all you...
