I went to Värnamo with my family. My wife is Swedish native, but I am not and I don’t speak Swedish. While my wife was absent from the hotel for 2 days due to a surgery, I had to communicate in English, however the Receptionst doesn't speak english, her manager explained that English is not a requirement for the staff, even for the ones who deal with Customers. So, is it then expected that all Customers speak Swedish? If you can't speak Swedish choose somewhere else to stay or learn Swedish before choosing this hotel. My small son peed on the bed during the night, so I went to the reception to explain the situation and asked to change the bedding/blanket. After minutes trying to explain the situation in English, the receptionist didn't understand, then I asked my 7 years old daughter to explain in Swedish (my daughter worked as a translator). The receptionist then told that there was an additional fee of 500 SEK because my soon peed on the bed, I was a bit surprised with this fee to be honest, since they are supposed to wash the bedding anyways, but ok, I informed that I would pay during the check out, and the receptionist said ok, but it seems she didn't understand well. On the next morning, my wife was back in the hotel, recovering from a surgery and the same receptionist confronted her in front of other guests, while she was getting breakfast at the middle of the buffet, telling her to pay the extra fee. It was an extremely embarrassing situation. Her manager (Amanda) told at my face that she was afraid I was going to leave the hotel without paying this fee. The total stay was 4000SEK which I payed in advance during the checkin. Would I really run away without paying the extra fee? It seems they take the assumption and suspect that all guests can run away without paying. After all this situation, the hotel ended up not charging the extra fee.
It was very Embarrassing and terrible experience, poor customer service support, receptionst doesn't...
Read moreFree parking! But sadly someone bashed my car's rear window for a couple of kid's toys. Luckily, the robbers, two of them, which we saw when heading to check-in, were quite the professionals and ditched the loot by a nearish road. Nothing was lost. I didn't consider this to be a big deal and everyone was, given the situation, in a pretty good mood when I recovered the stolen toys.
It's a shame things didn't progress smoothly after this. Dealing with the hotel staff left a bitter and sour taste. I don't know swedish law at all, but I'm suspecting this is a such small matter, that it was up to me to call the police and make it "official", which I didn't wan't do. It was late, I had driven all day, we had a long way to go tomorrow and frankly, I just didn't see any point in it. Sleeping was something I wanted to do. And to my great disappointment, all of this was ignored by the staff and they called them anyways. So we waited and then waited some more and after about one and a half hours later, I gave up and started cleaning the mess a broken window leaves. It was a pretty good mess, took a while to get it even in a point where you can start vacuuming. Which was a another thing the staff was weird about, they didn't want to lend theirs. I tried, we tried, but no one could get a straight answer out of them as to why not. Sure, it wasn't in the hotel bill and they were under no obligation to hand over theirs, but customer service and all of that. It's a hotel, you vacuum rooms all day, I even saw one unused at the moment.
All communication with the staff was subpar at the best. We talked, they talked, but nothing of importance. They just stood there, next to my car, and were useless. I'm guessing this scenario isn't included in their training, but clearly there is a need for it.
Oh, and the breakfast was also a huge disappointment.
TL;DR: Car got robbed, hotel staff ended up being the greater inconvinece,...
Read moreVery easy to stop from the motorway coming from south and continuing up north. The outside of the hotel and restaurant look very much like a cheap budget -style but especially the room was a very pleasant surprise!! Nicely decorated, comfortable furniture, good beds, clean bathroom.. It all looked brand new and more stylish than many other more expensive hotels we've stayed in. The restaurant is a polished version of a truck stop but that's all we needed and certainly didn't expect a romantic candle light dinner. The breakfast was very good with multiple options, also eggs and bacon etc. Free parking. |The only downside is that they seem to be quite short staffed during evenings because the check in is at the restaurant desk and we had to wait a while before anyone came to greet us...
