Having reserved a hotel in austria for ski vacation we found out it rained on the piste, the day before departure. We frantically searched for an alternative and found plenty of snow in the French Alps. The drive was however much longer (austria from home, utrecht NL, was 8 hours, french alps more like 11). We then found out that we could stay in Switzerland and take a cable lift (cable car hosts 125 people) into the Port du Soleil, one of the biggest ski areas in France. We found Le Cedre in Bex, only 25 minutes drive from the cable in Champery (near border switzerland-France), only 7.5 hours drive. Booked it and drive off a few hour later. The hotel is a bit of a surprise, it has all the looks and feel of a santa fe motel, but in a rather industrial area instead of the desert. Excellent in terms of cleanliness and size, but otherwise basic. Lobby was deserted most of the time but entry was possible 24/7. Restaurants were almost all closed for the holidays so we drove to a larger town, Monthey, which had plenty of choice. The drive to and from the Cable lift was very doable, parking was at crawling distance from the lift. Apres-Ski was not on the menu in Bex (mostly aimed at farming and industry it seems), but we did not care too much (exhausted after 6 hrs of skiing). Personnel in Le Cedre was very helpful and pleasant. Price was quite reasonable, about 125 $ per day for a room for 2. We will definitely...
Read moreHave been staying at this hotel for quite a few years and never have any complaints with the comfort or hospitality. Hilde, is an excellent member of the management team and is very friendly, helpful and professional. It is always lovely to see her again and we get a very warm welcome. The rooms on the 3rd floor overlooking the front of the hotel have particularly good views and even though the tram goes by there is no external noise. These rooms have a secluded balcony.||Breakfast is self service, with the usual array of breads, ham and cheese, fruit juice, yoghurt and the coffee maker is excellent. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The garage is underground which is useful. There is a short walk into Bex which is a charming, peaceful little village. This hotel is good when visiting the nearby spa of Lavey Les Bains. There are lots of good restaurants in the area. Already looking forward...
Read moreDue to a very bad snowstorm, my family and I decided to stop driving on our way from the Valais back to the Zurich area. We happened to pick Bex to exit the highway, and decided best to stay over. The staff at Hotel le Cedre could not have been more welcoming - they gave us our room right away (early afternoon), provided a water kettle for our baby, and a number of other nice touches. Rooms were clean, bright, and nice. Breakfast was also very good. What set this hotel apart was its kind service team - they made a situation that could have been somewhat stressful into a very enjoyable stay! I don't know if we'll be back in Bex again, but I will not hesitate to stay here, or recommend Le Cedre to people wishing to explore this area of the Chablais, or the Portes du Soleil ski area. Bex itself was a charming little town also. A very good place for an overnight or stop if you're driving...
