Gasthof zum Kreuz — Hotel in Holderbank (SO)

I have now stayed a the Gasthof zum Kruez on three occasions travelling back and fowards to our holiday home in Italy and have never yet been disappointed. This is a beautiful and charming hotel set up in the mountains, it is a little out of the way but well worth the detour. The staff are very friendly, the bedrooms are spacious, spottlessly clean and bathrool very large with a walk-in shower, perfect after a long drive. My only slight complaint was the room was a little too warm, especially with a cosy duvet. The restaurant food was well prepared with an excellent choice, I had a goat kid which was exceptional. My son who has learning difficulties didn't like anything on the menu but the staff prepared for him a chicken with curry sauce and vegtables which he throughly enjoyed. The breakfast, which as you would expect, continental, had an excellent choice, eggs were cooked individually and I can say was one if not they best continental breakfasts I have every had. What a great facility ... not big (19 rooms) but really lovely. The "new owners" who are the son and daughter-in-law of the previous owners have been ploughing money back into the facility to enlarge and upgrade it. And they know what they are doing. It is just lovely!||Service is fantastic and there is a restaurant on site (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) Breakfast is included in the room rate. Holderbank is a small village about 25 km outside of Basel ... and well worth the drive. Clean, large tooms with very comfortable beds and duvet covers. ||We found this one using booking.com and are very pleased with the ratings given by others in the past - well deserved.||We arrived at the end of an Amsterdam-Basel Rhine River cruise, and although relatively early in the day, we were accommodated, our luggage was brought from the car and we enjoyed some coffee before setting in and enjoying the countryside. This gasthof is really very nice. It also has to be a safe place because we found a note on the receptiën desk telling me that I had room... and the key was on the door. See you at breakfast. Awesome room. Large and everything needed. Fast internet ( free) and a huge bathroom with huge walkin shower. Nice decorated and good bed. Pefect. It even good beter at breakfast. My colleagued and i were really guests. What could possible was on the breakfast tabel. Incredible. The only little minus was that the restaurant for evening dinner was closed on the day we arrived but next door there was a very nice restaurant. So no problem at all.
