Perfect from start to finish! After searching and checking reviews for a place to stay in Saas Fee, I finally decided to contact The Fletschhorn to make a reservation. When surprising my husband with an overnight stay for our Anniversary, it couldn't have been better. The friendly and welcoming service, amazingly delicious food, beautiful and comfortable room with a king-size bed, and the private spa area with sauna - truly amazing! Every special touch made for a wonderful experience. We were greeted by Philippe who picked us up from the car park and drove us to the ski lift - he is super friendly and personable yet professional. After we were finished the afternoon on the slopes, he picked us up and drove us to the hotel where he showed us where we could store our ski gear until morning. Anna welcomed us to the hotel where we were seated for a complimentary glass of champagne and small dish of locally sourced bread, meats and cheeses. She provided us with a menu to select everything we would like to have for breakfast the next morning as well as asking us what time we preferred. She then asked what time we would like to have dinner. Anna then provided us with the special five-course dinner menu, but I asked for the a la cart menu as well to see what other dished were offered. We were then shown our room which had a very comfortable king-size bed with lovely bedding, nice decor, beautiful views from our balcony and spacious accommodations. We got settled in and changed out of our ski clothes so we could enjoy the complimentary private use of the sauna/spa area that was reserved for us. After relaxing in the spa area, we got ready for dinner. Everything was flawless up to this point! We were greeted by Nuno who sat us down in the beautiful dining room. We were offered to select a wine from the wine cellar below where we chose a nice bottle of red wine that was recommended by Nuno. Although I was not going to opt for the 5-course dinner, my husband decided he was going to go for it. In the past, I wasn't a fan of duck or truffle, both which were part of the five-course dinner, so I was going to order off of the a la cart menu which had several options available - beef filet, salmon, prawns, pasta, etc. that I could have chosen instead. I decided to go for the five-course dinner - and I'm SO glad I did. It did not disappoint one bit. The dinner was fabulous! The food was delicious, the service was perfectly timed, the server was helpful and friendly, and we loved every single part. As for dessert, even though my husband was going to opt for his favorite, cheesecake, we were surprised to find out that the chef had made a special dessert just for us for our Anniversary that was beautiful and tasted wonderful! A perfect finishing touch to a five-star dinner experience! After over-indulging on such a fabulous evening, it was off to bed for a wonderful night of sleep. In the morning, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast where everything we had asked for was made fresh and tasted wonderful. After breakfast, we packed our bags and headed to the front desk where we were able to thank each member of their team for our beautiful experience. Philippe loaded up our luggage, grabbed our ski gear and took us back to the ski lift so we could enjoy the rest of the day on the slopes. We would definitely, 100 percent, recommend this fantastic hotel located in the quiet setting to anyone looking for an amazing experience! A huge THANK YOU to Siegfried, Philippe, Anna, Nuno, the Chef and other team members at The Fletschhorn...
Read moreWe went to the Waldhotel years ago and had one of the most amazing meals ever. So decided to rebook on our recent trip to Switzerland. It started off very well - the owner is very welcoming and had upgraded us to the suite which has amazing views. It was a lovely room and seemed to be packed with luxury facilities. However, we soon found out that nothing seemed to work. The wifi was down (I will let them off this as it was, apparently due to a thunderstorm) but we then found out the TV did not work. There were instructions on using the satellite TV but the TV just requested a smart card - so we were unable to view anything. There was an amazing double jacuzzi bath but no instructions and we could not find out how to make it work at all. There was a fitness bike int eh room (great idea) but it was not plugged in. We were also told the minibar was free - water and beer - but no evidence of a bottle opener!|The food was nothing like we had on our previous visit. I can only describe it as hearty food with very little sophistication in the cooking. There was some home cooked ravioli but it was pretty tasteless. The main course was lamb shank which was very fatty , served with very overcooked potatoes and some gravy / sauce. It certainly wasn't the fine dining that I would expect in a place like this where we ended up with a bill of over 500 CHF for 1 night.|I have given 3 starts only because the room was very nice if you ignore all the things that...
Read moreI rarely write reviews unless to give praise and encouragements but I had to warn others about this place. For context we have taken quite a few weekend breaks in Swiss ski resorts this winter and we wonder how this hotel obtained its 4 star rating. The only explanation we found is that it is a legacy from the previous management. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the atmosphere was very akward. We really had to insist to avoid their set menu (89.- per person) and the only other option was breaded veal with french fries and a rather strange side salad (sprouts, thinly chopped tomatoes, carrots, yellow peppers and what looked like potato). The "famous" wine cellar seemed to be somewhat outdated. Even the chef acklowledged that most white wines were more than 10 years old and that is not ideal for a Swiss white. We tried 3 different Swiss whites but they tasted like vinegar so we gave up. The room was spacious and quiet but impossible to open the window and both blinds were broken. The water trickled from the tap in the bathroom sink probably due to clogging caused by limestone deposits. Two light bulbs were broken and the afternoon tea we had been promised was nowhere to be found. Breakfast was better but one of the waitresses was surly and borderline rude. The other staff were friendly and tried their best but it was quite obvious that they had very limited experience. We would not give this hotel more than 2.5-3...
