When I booked our room, I specifically asked for a room with a wooden floor and modern bathroom. Initially the reply was "if possible" we will provide a room with a wooden floor and modern bathroom. I asked why it would not be possible and then they confirmed that we would be allocated a room with a wooden floor and a modern bathroom. However, when we arrived late afternoon after a long journey from the UK, we were given a room with a carpet so I went downstairs to clarify that I had expected a room with a wooden floor and modern bathroom. We were then shown a large number of different rooms but none of the rooms that they showed us, had both a wooden floor and a modern bathroom. We were then offered an upgrade at a cost of CHF240 for our stay of 6 days to a room of a different category but with wooden floor and bathroom. We reluctantly accepted this as we were very tired. I had an email exchange with Nadine (I have never come across a more unprofessional customer service person in my entire life) who initially told us there was a problem with the booking system but then pointed out to us that we did not like any of the other rooms and that we should be grateful for the low price of the upgrade to another room. Nadine seems to completely miss the point that the hotel made a mistake. ||Also we were asked on the day at what time we would arrive. I gave the exact arrival time of the train and the booking service confirmed that somebody would pick us up. When we arrived there was nobody to pick us up. We phoned the hotel and the receptionist did not know anything about it. ||So not a great start of our holiday and surprisingly we did not receive any apology. ||Good thing about the hotel is the dinner which is of...
Read moreMaybe it was just the room: Tiny space, no balcony, no minibar, the bath microsized and no windows, and the shoespoon from IKEA - that is not what I call 4 star level. But then the kitchen was not really overwhelming, either: not a single good cheese, all cowmilk cheese, and they all tasted like chewing gum. Coffee had to be made in self service. Eggs sunny side up? Wait half an hour for it. Wine list? Max 2 star level, a few local wines but not the best, a few Italian, one or two french wines - really disappointing. Does the F&B Manager like his job or just tries to optimize the hotel expenditures? Or are most of the (old) guests happy with little? Besides the fact that all spa conveniences and pool were closed due to Corona (which was not mentioned in the internet), there is also no fitness room. Reception closes at 11pm - etc etc. All in all: For that price, one would expect more quality. Luckily, we had dinner just across the street, at the Guarda Val - wow. That is quality. One would think they learn from each other, after all they are same family, but no: Guarda Val top,...
Read moreOur little suite in an annex to the main hotel with two bunk beds in the living area for the kids was perfect: tasteful and modern, spacious, fully equipped kitchen and wonderful views, even a connecting passage underground to the main hotel so the children could go back and forth by themselves. Great attention to detail, such as toys and books for the children in the room, as well as child-sized bathrobes and slippers. The play-areas for children are really great (close to the restaurant so the adults don't have to rush dinner) and the hotel offers child-minding and activities. The food is very good: huge breakfast buffet including local products, and the dinners are fabulous, with an imaginative and fine menu each day (with vegetarian options) and quicker, child-friendly menu. The staff were without exception very friendly, kind and helpful - even when busy - and help to create a wonderful atmosphere. We had a...
