Hotel Schwarzsee — Hotel in Zermatt

I wish I could give this place a negative star. I’ve never felt more disgusted by a service than this place. I booked the room at this hotel to spend New Years Eve, we arrived on the 31st of December. We were greeted by a kind gentleman, he gave us our keys and we went upstairs to our room. Zermatt was entirely booked- there was no place available for a stay in the town. The hotel was also booked entirely so we settled for the 4 sleeper bed room- I was celebrating my honeymoon.

As I was leaving my room, I saw the room across to us it was open, it faced the Matterhorn and has a double bed, so I went downstairs to speak to the lady. I very politely asked (we Canadians are overly polite) if I could switch rooms as the room across to us was free. She started to talk over me and said “it needs to be cleaned etc etc”. The Canadian in me suggested I’ll help her clean as long as we can get that room- we were on our honeymoon and visiting the Matterhorn was a dream therefore waking up to it is something I was truly looking forward to. She started to yell at me, walked away from me, I continued to remain calm and didn’t once raise my voice (mind you I’m the guest and I paid over 500 francs to stay here for the night) this woman was literally screaming at me, she treated me like absolute garbage. My heart started to beat uncontrollably and I started to have so much anxiety- because I was shocked that someone just screamed and yelled at me that way, I was in utter shock almost choking on my words. She then came back and very rudely said “the people who are staying in there might come back and I don’t want to lose my job so I can’t give you the room”. The lift shuts off at 4:30 PM- it was 5 PM. I was so upset no because she couldn’t change our room but because how I was made to feel. I am a brown woman, so I first thought she probably doesn’t like my color but then I read other reviews and realized she’s just miserable. I went outside and began to cry, because I couldn’t control myself. I cried for a good ten minutes while having a complete panic attack. Can you imagine visiting a hotel paying 500 plus francs on your honeymoon to have the lady (who absolutely hates her life) to make you cry???

What’s worst is she later put the same room on sale on the website!!! So she not only lied to me but on top yelled at me??? What a con woman! If you’re reading this review- I hope you figure your life out. Making a guest cry that too on their honeymoon who never once treated you the way you treated her is disgusting.

I know this review won’t matter too much to this place because they’ve continuously gotten away with treating people poorly- but what you arrogant folks need to comprehend is there is something called karma and it’ll eventually...

This is an ideal location for skiers. The view is STUNNING. The restaurant serves dinner from 6:30pm and breakfast from 7:30am, and the checkout time is latest 10:00am. There is a ski room to keep your skis and boots, and the rooms are above. The room we got had two bunk beds, a couple of shelves and a sink. There is a shared bathroom and shower which may be inconvenient at times, but it was very uncrowded when we stayed. It’s a good room for being 2600m high. They serve a fixed menu for dinner. The portions are a little weak, but the food is delicious. The shower pressure is really nice. Our window had a view of the town of Zermatt, which lit up in the night. The breakfast is very solid. ‘Hotel Schwarzsee’ is one of the places to stay if you like to be close to the Matterhorn. From here you can hike early up to Hörnli Hütte. We took the Gondola up to Schwarzsee and stayed overnight. The hotel is a nice mountain hotel with good basic rooms. It’s cozy and comfortable. The view is breathtaking. Loved early morning sunrise that created a spotlight on the Matterhorn. Just Stunning! Breakfast and dinner is included in the overnight price. Service was friendly and kind. Especially Damian was a very kind and cheerful staff to meet. He offered us the table with the good view what was super nice. He also made sure we got a coffee early morning what was highly aprechiated. We liked staying here and hope to be back one day.
