We stayed at Chateau Beach Resort for three nights. We stayed in all three buildings in different rooms every night (reason below). My thoughts and advice:
The Good - Its location is superb. It is right on a sandy, clean beach. It is also walking distance to Kenting Night Market street.
Hotel facilities are superb - kids indoor play rooms, pool and arcade room, putting green, archery, multiple pools.
The breakfast buffet is pretty good, with both Western and Asian cuisine options. There was never a wait for a table.
The Mediocre - Hotel staff got the work done, but never went out of their way (considering this hotel is one of the two most expensive resorts in the area, and 4X - 6X more expensive than the inns next door). For example, they have a golf cart on demand shuttle that takes passenger to/from Postiano to Provence lobbies. At the end of the hotel property is a side gate to get to street to the Kenting Night Market. It is about a 15 sec ride from the Postiano lobby. I asked if the shuttle driver can drop us off at the side gate, but he refused. The weather is extremely hot, over 90°C and extremely humid. At that time, a 15 second short drive would have gone a long way to show their care, without it being a big deal.
The Bad The property is very dated with rust, green stuff (mold / algae), bad caulking, chipped and scratched furniture. The mattress is not very comfortable. You could feel the coils.
The property is a no smoking facility, but yet some guests still blatantly smoked in their rooms. How did WE know? Because the smoke was so strong that it spread into the hallway and into my room next-door. We changed rooms and the second room also had lingering smoke smell. Thankfully, the third room was smoke-free but we did sleep two nights inhaling 2nd hand smoke.
Regarding the above, I didn’t think the hotel handled the situation well. Hotel staff said there wasn’t much that they can do because the smoking guest refused to open the door and also denied smoking. Hotel staff said they would have to catch the guest in action in order to prove that he smoked on the facility. That’s a tough situation, but we also paid a lot of money to stay at this five star hotel. Hotel staff gave us a voucher to redeem a dessert, up to $100nt , and a cup of coffee, tea or juice, served in paper cups.
WiFi connection is not strong, and has to be reset from time to time, in order to connect. Some areas, i.e. the breakfast buffet restaurant, have extremely weak speed.
The room air conditioner in the Provence building is weak and not thermostat controlled. We had the dial turned to the coldest temp, 10 Celsius and high fan speed to get about 24 Celsius room temp.
Summary
Overall, I would choose this hotel if convenience and amenities are important to you. If you have a car, or plan to go scuba diving or snorkeling (so have to go to a different beach), I would recommend a...
Read moreGorgeous resort with prime beachfront accomodations. Rooms could be bigger compared with other resorts in Taiwan , but then again, few people will want to spend their day inside a hotel room when you have such a dreamy beach literally outside your room. The hotel is divided in three buildings, two of them are 2 floors and a third is 3 floors.
The hotel has a two floor all- you-can-eat buffet restaurant with an interesting selection of foods: Dinner includes Taiwanese food, some sushi roll options and shrimp Nigiri, smoked salmon, satay chicken, kimchi, sliced roasted beef, and even two types of pizza. Dessert bar included several types of cakes, biscuits, and ice cream selection with my favorite Lichi fruit ice cream. Drinks include all you can drink draft beer (Taiwan beer), coffee and several juices and iced teas. Do keep in mind the food selection probably changes throughout the year. Breakfast options included Taiwanese breakfast, which is rich in noodles and pork, sweet potatoes and dumplings. As for Western options you can order cheese omelette which was surprisingly tasty, bacon, sausages, various European style cheese selections and baguette bread to go with it. There's a small selection of fresh fruit: dragon fruit, pineapple, banana and grapefruit (should change depending on the season). Drinks include orange juice, dragon fruit juice, liquid probiotic yogurt, iced teas and several types of coffee from automatic Swiss made coffee machines (very popular).
There are 3 pools areas with some pools including activities for kids, and others have water jet massage features and bubbles operated with a button. There's a bar next to the pools and towel service.
The beach is gorgeous with almost white coloured sand. As with most white sand beaches, the feel of the sand on your feet may be a bit rough, so it can get hard to walk inside the water and stay standing up if the tide is harsh. Be advised that as with most beaches in Taiwan, the sand surface is quite small when walking into the beach with the underwater fall relatively close to the sand (3 to 5 meters). Swim at your own risk, preferably with a floating device, and keep in mind that jelly fish are abundant throughout all Taiwan, so I personally recommend a wet suit if you're planning to do some swimming...
Read moreDisappointing Stay at Chateau Beach Resort Kenting
We booked a 3-night stay at Chateau Beach Resort Kenting, expecting a 5-star experience, but ended up checking out after just one night due to several major disappointments. While the staff was helpful and accommodating—allowing us to check out and process a refund even though we had prepaid through a non-refundable third-party platform—unfortunately, the resort itself did not live up to the 5-star standard it claims to offer.
One of the biggest issues was the lack of fully functioning amenities. While the beach itself was technically accessible, there was ongoing construction, and the beach area was bare—no bar, recliner chairs, umbrellas, or any of the features you’d expect from a resort of this caliber. Without those amenities, it was hard to see what made the resort stand out as a destination.
The buffet was another disappointment. While there was an extensive variety of food available (which might appeal to those who prioritize quantity over quality), we found the quality itself to be poor and not on par with what you’d expect at a 5-star resort.
The room was another letdown—it was small, very outdated, and in need of a complete renovation. The furniture and décor felt old and unattractive, leaving an impression of neglect rather than luxury. Overall, the entire property appears overdue for a significant update.
One positive aspect is that the resort seems to cater well to families, with plenty of facilities for children. However, even with that in mind, the outdated state of the property and lack of quality would still make it hard to recommend, even for families.
To put things into perspective, the next hotel we stayed at just down the street, Caesar Park, was similarly priced and provided a far superior experience, from the quality of the rooms to the food and amenities. It was also walkable to town and the night market unlike Chateau which is a bit isolated.
In its current state, Chateau Beach Resort Kenting feels closer to a 3-star experience at best. Unless major renovations are undertaken, it’s hard to justify choosing this resort over other options...
