This hotel's positioning is crispy clear. It is a family friendly hotel with an onsen experience and executed well through our 3 day stay there. ||||There is lots of thoughtfulness and little detail that I come appreciate with too many trips under my belt. First, the decor and the onsen experience. When entering, the wooden lattice frame at the front door that covers the glass entrance tells is delivering a subliminal mesaage: earth tones, natural elements, warmth. And I was right, the lobby and the restaurant (loved the wooden curvature and the ceiling) evokes a strong feeling of home or a mom and pop ryokan, but modernized to 21st century standards. The rooms are categorized into the five natural elements. We stayed in the "water room". The earth tone theme continues. This is well laid out room with one tatami room, perfect for kids. The master bedroom took some inspiration from the classic Peninsula quad layout. One side is the walk in closet and a vanity table to put all of our luggage and two sets of well fitted yukata and a special set slippers making a subtle reminder to visit the onsen. The other side is a bathroom with a shower plus tub configuration. For those (like me) who worry about kids slipping in the bathroom, the tiles are antislip and the bathtub doubles up as a mini onsen. One detail that I liked: the glass door sandwiched a piece of ryokan like wallpaper, so you get the wallpaper ambiance without breaking it. =)||||Next onto the onsen. Men and women are separate and after dropping all our clothes, you make a right turn and the space opens up to a shower area and the onsen with earthy tones with clean lines. Felt like the interior designer wanted to give us a positive surprise. The onsen is covered but the skylight lets in plenty of natural light. With two pools, one hot and one cold, user can choose what fits them. The little wooden stool and pail adds an extra later of detail. Also liked the in house Camelia shower gel they provided, not too aromatic but comes with a good smell. ||||Onto the food. We ordered breakfast. Instead of serving it on plastic trays, it is served in a few stacked wooden boxes to mimic the ryokan. Food was delicious, with lots of small dishes and a main dish that changes everyday. We also had lunch in the restaurant where they had an outdoor area that is ideal for chilling in a breezy evening with views of the Tamsui river. I had the shredded black chicken rice, which was delicious. Chicken oil was infused into the rice which makes it extra tasty. ||||While the kids had plenty of fun in the onsen, we also checked out the playroom. This is definitely inspired by a fairy tale town. Three "houses" - one kitchen, one tool house and another fruit seller market anchored the corners with a slide and swing in the middle. It smelled extra woody and I was not sure if it was new or if they had infused the room with some lemongrass oil. My baby girl had lots of fun role playing by selling me vegetables or making me a sandwich. There is also a quiet corner to read books. ||||There is another mini play room in the basement with two arcade games that had all the arcade games in the 80s. Is this for the kids or for the adults? =P I willingly played a few games of Street Fighter to reminisce when Nintendo only had two buttons, not eight.||||With all the great hardware, the software was also up to standards with an extra attentive staff that ran out to grab our luggage when we arrive and always put on smiles when we see them in the morning. ||||Great stay and we hope this newcomer...

Read moreBooked 4 nights stay through their website. We have 2 adults and 2 kids so we had the larger ‘Water’ room. We also noted on our booking that we will be traveling with 2 kids so 2 x $880 =$1760 was added to our booking of total of $26956. Upon arrival we were told they charge $880 per kid per night, and their website only calculated 1 night, So it’s our final charge would be 3x$1760 more. We were too tired after a 14hr flight that we didn’t argue. But if there’s a bug with their website they should just honor the pricing. ||We booked the hotel room because hubby had to work during the night and we like having the separate bedrooms with the kids. The kids were quite excited with the Tatami setup in their room. The front desk agents were always welcome and friendly, however, we were quite disappointed with the housekeeping department. When we first checked in we noticed some left over crumbs in the living room. One day when we came back to the room, the room was half cleaned. They made our bed but not the kids. They left dirty dishes in the sink for me to clean. Honestly I do not like housekeeping in the room during Covid so I only asked them to clear out the trash. but making one bed and not the other and moving used tea set and cups without cleaning is a bit odd (one day they moved it to the sinks, the other day it was moved to the shelf). Hubby was extra annoyed when we walked by the front desk one day and we were told by the rep that their housekeeping crew found our kids drawing on their floor. Such a random accusation !! My kids are older and has never drew on the wall or floor even when they were younger. They may have dropped a crayon on the floor which broke into pieces and left some crumbs but no one drew on their floor for sure! Their housekeeping crew really needs to be retrained. ||We had high hope with those hotel with the apartment set up and proximity to the city and were hoping if it’s all good we’d keep it on our list of go to hotel whenever we visit the area. Unfortunately we were with the so called bug with their online booking system and housekeeping we will need to look for...
