There are too many negatives to recommend Hotel Leisure Tamsui / Life Hotel for the Tamsui district:
The WiFi is extremely unstable, constantly logging on and off and resetting during our two-night stay.
There is only ONE electrical outlet in the entire room, and it is an old-style two-prong plug. All the light fixtures in our room were hardwired to the wall, making it impossible to find more outlets. However, I was able to receive on loan a multi-outlet from front-desk.
Coffee and tea were provided, but there was no creamer or sugar. The breakfast dining area also lacked sugar for coffee. There is no doubt either the hotel operators not drinking coffee personally or only drank water down coffee as one finds in many older established eateries in Taiwan.
Breakfast options cater to local tastes, so be prepared for this limitation.
Check-in time is strictly at 4 PM, with no exceptions. I highly suggest the hotel operators travel more to understand how hospitality works.
The exterior of the hotel and public areas are modern, giving the impression of an upscale atmosphere. However, like many places in Taiwan, the interior is chaotic and neglected. The room was outdated, reflecting its downward budget pricing. The room is what one finds from 1970s Taipei time, bare minimum and mismatching of furnishing and decorations.
The hotel's location from Tamsui station requires a walk on a narrow and broken sidewalk, uphill. The path to the hotel is as terrible as the guest rooms.
The staff is average, meeting but not exceeding expectations. Perhaps with better experience outside of this facility, they could improve.
Now, I'm trying to comprehend the numerous positive reviews of the hotel. I wonder if these reviews are genuinely from guests or if they are fabricated by forced labor in an undisclosed location in Thailand.
BEST saving grace of the facility is the cleanliness of smoke or mold odor typically of numerous...
Read moreMy wife's family lives in Tamsui so we wanted to find a good quality hotel in Tamsui for our 10 day stay. The Asia Pacific Hotel was a very good choice. It is a 10 minute walk to the Tamsui Station public transport hub. Buses also stop on the main road in front of the hotel. We had a good size room for 2 adults and our 2 large suitcases - it had a view over the Tamsui River. The room was clean and included a lounge suite and a small bench for making tea or coffee. The king size bed was firm but comfortable. The aircon was very effective but not as quiet as I would have liked. There is a large shower area with very strong water flow and lots of hot water plus a good size drying area with a bench. The TV had a huge number of channels but few in English (for me, my wife is a native Mandarin speaker). There is wifi in the room and the common areas, including the restaurant although I found that my local 4G was faster. The buffet breakfast was included in the room price - it includes a range of some fairly basic Asian dishes together with fruit, toast and brewed coffee or tea. I enjoyed the vegetarian congee. Our room was serviced every day. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. They will arrange transport to and from the airport. We had no problems during our stay. It is not luxurious accommodation but I think it might be the best...
Read moreMy first time staying at this hotel, and I stayed in a Queen Room. I had a very good stay and was surprised at the quality and cleanliness of the hotel for the price - excellent value.||POSITIVES||- Staff was very friendly and helpful on arrival, allowing early check-in.||- Breakfast staff very polite and nice.||- The hotel and room was super clean. Very surprised.||- Amazing location||- Excellent entertainment/movie selection on TV||NEGATIVES||- Had to change room twice. First room was very nice but lights didn't work and shower was broke. Staff then changed me to a standard double room which was a downgrade to my Queen room, and said they didn't have any more Queen Rooms available. I then found out that they did have another Queen room available (so the staff member lied to me), and I was eventually moved into another Queen room at almost 12.00AM / midnight.||- Breakfast is included in price which is good, but the quality did not compare with hotel quality.|||I would recommend to stay here and I hope...
