Arrived with no prior insight about this location. Enjoyed the environment, but was overall disappointed with the service. Environment (4/5): The location and environment is typical for an area surrounded by fields - very scenic and peaceful. Out back, there's a spacious patio and a small play area for children. However, the playground is strangely built next to a pond. If you're planning on bringing small children, it's best to not let them play outside without supervision. Other than that, it's a nice place to relax with friends and family. They provide hot and cold water, or bottled tea and alcohol for a fee.
Location and nearby activities (3/5 a transportation vehicle is highly recommended): within walking distance, there's a 7-11 and few restaurants. It is recommended to order food through delivery platforms if you don't have reliable personal transportation. Nearby attractions and activities include ocean viewing, visiting the Traditional Arts Center, lake viewing, and cycling.
Rooms and service (2/5): my first impression of the room upon walking in was that it was spacious and we'll kept. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed many points that made me wonder if they even took time to clean the rooms. My room was lacking a set of toiletries and the blankets were also laid on the bed sideways, with the opening facing the right side instead of the foot of the bed. I went to sleep without thinking too much about it. It wasn't until the morning that I realized the inside blanket layer was quite dirty and heavily stained with black and red patches. When I returned to my room after breakfast, I noticed that the room was actually crawling with flies, spiders, and mosquitoes. I hadn't opened the back window or door at all, and the owner even assured me that he had just finished deep cleaning the entire building. Before checking in, the owner even grandly assured me that they had 'absolutely no mosquitoes or bugs anywhere on the premises', which makes no sense seeing as they were surrounded by fields..... Yet, after notifying the owner about the pest issue in the room, we were told that it's impossible and must be because we brought the pests over. The staff also made comments about how nice it is to have customers who can clean for them.
Overall, the location was comfortable. But, unfortunately, the owner and staff made the...
Read moreWe stayed there for only 1 night. It's a pity as we had quite a lot of fun. ||||The B&B owner, Edwin, is so friendly and warm. He offered to pick us from Ludong train station. Once we reached his place, he was quick to offer us a special drink which he said is Yilan's speciality. He gave us a quick familiarisation and offered his suggestions on the places to visit. He was very earnest. ||||He works very closely with a cabby who stays near his house. The husband and wife team standby to send his guests anywhere in Yilan and they runs by the meter. It works well with us as we are not worried that cabbies don't know the way to Serene Gray and they respond immediately to our calls. ||||As for the surroundings of the B&B, for those who like peace and quiet, this house offers that. Edwin chose this location as they don't want to have noisy neighbors that may disturb his guests for vice versa. It is sandwiched by padi fields. Within the house, there is a little playground, bicycles and scooterbikes for the little ones. They have a nice collection of videos and CDs and they have wired movie stations too. The 3 of us totally enjoyed the bath tub and our bubble bathes. It is big enough for my little girl to swim in! ||||Breakfast is another big highlight. Edwin's wife made homecook food for us. Together with the fruit juices and some kind of peanut drink (another Yilan's speciality), breakfast is...
Read moreThe hostel is well designed and the breakfast is excellent. |However, I would not recommend the 4-people room. We find there are only 3 clothes-hangers in the 4-people room. It rains nearly every day when we visit Yilan. You can imagine how messy in the room without wardrobe and enough hangers. |The bathroom is very nice, but once again you won't have time to enjoy it when 4 people take turn to use it. It would be better if the bathroom is separated from the toilet for family room.|One morning when we wake up a bit early and want a bicycle ride near the hostel, only to find most bikes grow rusty.|The last but not the least, the rate is overpriced in...
