Right by The Sea Marbordo — Hotel in Xiaoliuqiu

Location is genuinely right by the sea, or harbour in this case. Perfect for when you arrive on the ferry and want to drop your bags off as it’s literally a 1 minute walk away. Surrounded by shops, restaurants and the like - perfect base for your stay on the island. Staff was friendly, and slippers are provided to walk through the hotel. It’s a lot of stairs if you’re staying at the top like I was but the view was absolutely worth it (best to pay extra for a sea view). You can leave your bags if you’re early to check in/check out in the lobby. Be aware, if you want an undisturbed lie in, it may not be for you as the ships coming into harbour blare their horns very loud, but for me it was a novelty to watch this from the comfort of the bed. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable, one of the best sleeps I’ve ever had....

The hotel has a beautiful view of the bay. That's where the positives end. The hotel is poorly cleaned. There's dust everywhere. The hotel has no elevator and the stairs are very narrow. If you book a high-rise room, you'll get a backache from lifting your luggage in addition to the beautiful view. The hotel stinks. All the common areas smell of dampness and the toilet (there's no such problem in the rooms). They don't offer breakfast! That's a lie. They simply give you a voucher for 120TWD, which you can spend in three different places, one of which is far away (unless you have a motorbike). What's the point of limiting my food choices when I still have to go and pick it up myself? It's easier to just exclude breakfast from...

I’ve never been more disappointed at a hotel stay. The pictures are what sold us, but when we got there the room was the size of a closet, no view, and the advertised sofa was a joke, it was a seat for a toddler. The only window faces a wall. It should be a crime to lie like this. You can hear every single movement outside the room and there is a strange smell. It was basically a catfish.
