We went on a 5 day safari with Focus on africa. The tour guide, Wilson, was amazing. He really went out of his way to make our trip unforgettable. I am very sad to give a one star because he is worth 5! During the trip I noticed a couple of things which could have been done differently but I considered not to be worth writing a review but I will state them now anyway; we were leaving quite late a couple of times and when spotting animals you have to be there at first light! We were with 6 people in the car including luggage and camping equipment, making so that for a few drives the people in the back seats were uncomfortable. The one star I give for something that happend to a travel companion on a day that I was not there but makes me feel the need to write; the chef that was with us for 3 days(who cooked nicely but was only acting nice on the last night, all of the group immediately felt it was because he expected a tip) became angry because they gave too little tip. And with angry I mean yelling in their faces for over 15 minutes and not letting them leave the last campsite. They were so scared (2 woman alone) and not one of the 15 local men surrounding the vehicle said anything and let it happen (they work on the panorama safari camp and thus are also reprectatives of focus in africa). They felt attacked and it ruined their trip. This was a super scary situation and I would advise you to make sure who your guide will be as this will definitely make or brake it(their last day was spend with another "guide" who didn't know any English). Moreover, the owner wanted to pay the woman to remove the reviews and out of his messages it appears that he actually agrees the tip is too little and so was accepting towards the behaviour of the chef. Look elsewhere for your...
Read moreWe booked a safari with what we discovered to be a very dodgy safari company, Swahili Paradise Tours. After having a disagreement with them about the false advertising that caused us to book with them, we wanted to leave the campsite they booked (Panorama, which was not on the itinerary). ||Our guide company would not let us leave. They instructed the Panorama Campsite staff to lock the gates when our taxi driver arrived, refusing to let us leave for the night in an attempt to get us to sleep there (and pay for it), even though we never booked this campsite and did not want to stay. ||We begged them for hours into the night, fighting with them to let us go. Eventually they did (around 10pm), sitting by while our guide company threatened us to the point where a policeman we approached afterward said it was not safe for us to spent the night on the road, as people may have been sent after us.||We did not feel safe with Panorama Campsite, as they sat by and watched all this happen. They adhered to instructions to limit our movement and lock us in. They ignored our pleas and spoke to each other in Swahili. When I said I wanted to call the police to help us leave, the man who works at the gift shop smiled at me and said, “do it”. ||Please don’t book here. The company clearly has affiliations with tour companies, and you are not safe here if something happens to go wrong on your safari. The guests and reputation of the site was not prioritised, and we had a terrifying...
Read morePSC is well located, clean with friendly accomodating staff and is a perfect budget stopover Great value for money. We did a self drive and self navigated safari to Tanzania in June 2021. PSC is perfectly located between Serengeti and Arusha. Easy to find up a short bumpy road. Rooms are comfortable but small and the camp layout resembles a Masai Village! Bathrooms are shared but well maintained. We did not bring our own towels. Towels were provided for us on request. Showers were hot and bathrooms spotlessly clean. Night guard to escort you to bathrooms at night. Breakfast - Breakfast box requested as we were going in early to Lake Manyara National Park. Breakfast box was great - they even filled our flask for coffee and provided milk powder. We did not book dinner but they were able to provide a delicious 3 course dinner at last minute. Large portions. Well presented.
The view from the viewing deck was great - good view over Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu. Perfect stopover place for backpackers and budget travellers. Free wifi. Well stocked curio shop on site. Gardens tidy. Great value for the...
