After our initial review below, we were pleasantly surprised when the management of Dream of Zanzibar reached out to us. We had a thorough and constructive discussion, during which a number of issues we raised were addressed. It was clear that the management was genuinely committed to improving the guest experience, and they handled our concerns with a high level of professionalism. We appreciated the open communication and proactive approach in resolving matters. This kind of customer service definitely enhances the overall experience, and we feel confident that our feedback will contribute to further improvements at the resort.

Dream of Zanzibar is a decent hotel, but it falls far short of a 5-star standard in many areas. Its basically a 3 star hotel sold for 5 stars.

Rooms: While the rooms are nice at first glance, they lack basic attention to detail. There are no amenities provided, the bathrooms feel bare and outdated with yellowed towels, and the lighting is tied to noisy fans. These are not the standards expected of a 5-star hotel, especially considering the high rates we paid.

Dining Area: The dining experience was disappointing. The furniture was dirty, the atmosphere felt like a cafeteria, and the projector lighting added to the uninviting vibe. It was far from the elegance or charm of a true 5-star dining space.

Reception Area: The design of the reception area was baffling. It connects directly to a sauna, creating an unwelcoming and poorly thought-out layout.

Game Area: The game area lacked any energy or liveliness. Adding happy hours, music, or activities could have made it more appealing, but instead, the area felt completely dead.

Food: The food was very average, with few options, and certainly not on par with what one would expect from a luxury hotel.

Entertainment: There was no entertainment offered during our stay, which only added to the overall lack of atmosphere in the hotel.

Location & Beach: The location is extremely remote, with nothing nearby. The beach is not swimmable, which is a major letdown given the stunning beaches Zanzibar is known for. If you’re looking for a lively area or pristine beach, this is not the place.

The hotel was so underwhelming that we actually left for two days to stay at another hotel, despite still paying for our stay at Dream of Zanzibar. Surprisingly, the management didn’t even ask why we chose to leave or make any effort to address the issues we faced.

Overall, this hotel lacks charm, character, and the standards expected of a 5-star property. Having stayed in true 5-star hotels in Zanzibar, we know how much better the experience can be. At nearly $500 per night, this was deeply disappointing and not worth the cost.

The only positive aspect was the staff, who were understanding of the hotel’s shortcomings and tried their best to help. Special thanks to Manager Nguele and Hassan for their efforts.

Unfortunately, we will not return to Dream of Zanzibar. There are far better options on the island that deliver genuine luxury and...

So stay at this resort for my partners 50th Birthday and all I can say is wooow an amazing resort looks incredible even if a little on the small side compared to many other resorts, but it’s VERY clean and tidy, they welcome you so well and we had the luxury of the best room in the hotel with incredible sea / pool views outstanding.||The food here was amazing and delicious discovering so many beautiful dishes. I was slightly worried how the food was going to be cooked etc with gave stomach issues with bad food on previous holidays but zero issues here everything was perfect.||The staff are sooo friendly and nice other than one member of staff we had to report to reception for being very rude and horrible to us while on our stay called happiness, her name definitely did not match up to her personality. ||The only reason I would not give this review a 5* for the following 2 reasons
||First of all lack of entertainment at the resort, and this is just our own personal view there was zero music around the pool all day long every day not even some gentle background music would be amazing if that was the case, and zero daytime entertainment there was a board saying pool yoga or a game from 11am for 30mins but half the time it never happened I think maybe once in 14days we were there. And as stated no music so it’s a very sterile atmosphere, but some people may like that but we spoke to virtually all guests staying and they seem to all have the same opinion. Evening entertainment was again limited to 3-4 nights each week for 1 hr to a local band or local dancing etc which was lovely but that was it all other days there is nothing on in the evening.||Second reason sort of combines with first reason the location of the resort is very remote and nothing for miles near by so due to lack of any entertainment on resort you cannot walk from the resort to nearby bars or restaurants for entertainment as there are none anywhere nearby you have to pay for a taxi 50usd to go to the nearest town for entertainment in evening if you want anything like that.||If the resort had this entertainment side sorted especially given The location with lack of options near by then this would definitely be a 5* review as everything...

A Memorable Stay on Zanzibar

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Dream of Zanzibar nestled on the island Zanzibar and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality that made me feel right at home.

The hotel itself is beautifully designed, blending modern luxury with authentic African touches. My room was spacious, clean, and offered stunning views of the ocean. Every detail, from the comfortable bed to the locally crafted décor, was thoughtfully curated to enhance my stay.

One of the highlights was the incredible service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure all my needs were met, always offering assistance with a friendly and professional demeanor. They were also very knowledgeable about local attractions and helped arrange guided tours and excursions that allowed me to explore the rich culture and natural beauty of the region.

The hotel’s restaurant was another standout. The cuisine was a delightful fusion of local flavors and international dishes, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the chance to sample traditional African dishes, which were bursting with flavor and presented with great care.

In terms of amenities the hotel offers everything you could want for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The pool area was a tranquil oasis, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. The spa services were exceptional, offering treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated.

For those looking to experience the wonders of Africa in comfort and style, I highly recommend [Hotel Name]. Whether you’re there for a safari, a beach getaway, or simply to soak in the local culture, this hotel offers the perfect balance of luxury and authenticity.

Big thanks to...

Im currently in the hotel for 8 days, 2 more left. Ususally I wait with a review till my stay ends but I will make an exception as this place deserve a strong recommendation for people looking for an amazing vacation in Zanzibar. Ive been to one of the best hotels in the world and besides Leela Palace in Bangalore and Swissotel The Bosphorus Istanbul (best hotels in India and Turkey) this hotel in Zanzibar has the best service and client care policy Ive seen. New York, London, Mumbai, Frankfurt, Rome etc 5* hotels Ive visited could learn from this staff here. There is always someone around making sure you have something to drink, sunbed where you need it, if you carry heavy bag someone asks if you need help. Specifics: large rooms, good aircondintioning, very good food (they also have ala carte options in case what they prepared for the meal to make sure you pick something you like for sure - free of charge). Rooms are cleaned 2 times a day min but always when you are outside. Cold drinks in room fridge (beers, soft drinks). No music at the pool is something I really like. Peaceful and quiet, with plenty of available sunbeds. Village outside takes 30 min from end to finisz to walk around one way to see how locals live. Every one super polite asking how we are doing. They just opened so the price we paid was comparable to other nearby hotels which we also visited to take a look. Not even close to standard of Dream of Zanzibar. Book it without doubts. We will be comming back. Ps. Sorry for typos and wording. Have no glases with me and writting from the pool. Also, wifi is very good and covers all the corners. Had to make 1 hour zoom call and work for an hour - connections like from office but with beautiful view.

The hotel lives up to its name, it is a dream! It is a small and quiet hotel, where very friendly people work. The atmosphere is top notch! Our room was big, very clean and the bed was great! We were with a small baby (13 months) and everything we needed was there. The food was extensive, fresh and we especially liked the traditional dishes! Our baby ate with everything, but if it was inconvenient, the cook made something delicious for him without too much salt and spices. We also enjoyed beautiful wines with our food. It was a treat to come to dinner every time with the helpful service, beautiful view of the white sandy beach and bright blue sea and delicious food. An extensive list of cocktails can be ordered throughout the day and are served in a beautiful glass. Nice excursions can be booked from the hotel. We went snorkeling, where we also saw dolphins along the way and took a trip to stone-town. In short, we had a wonderful vacation that we can highly recommend in case you want to relax.

We stayed at this amazing place for our summerbreak and we were very delightedly suprised of the total picture of the resort. Not only because of the excellent location (it was conveniently located right in front of a white soft sandy beach), but the resort itself proved to be the rating that it deserved. We received a very spacious room overlooking the beach with all imaginable amenities, the restaurant served delicious food, local as well as international dishes. The service we received by the restaurant staff was very hospitable, we felt very much welcome. The atmosphere and the mood was exhilirating and at the same time "HAKUNA MATATA" all day long. We felt very welcome, especially the special attention that we received from one of our hosts, Happiness, was exceptionally good and inspirational. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitute to her and all of the hotel staff and thanks for making our stay at Dream of Zanzibar a truly memorable one! Asante sana.Tuonane tena siku zijazo.
