After our initial review below, we were pleasantly surprised when the management of Dream of Zanzibar reached out to us. We had a thorough and constructive discussion, during which a number of issues we raised were addressed. It was clear that the management was genuinely committed to improving the guest experience, and they handled our concerns with a high level of professionalism. We appreciated the open communication and proactive approach in resolving matters. This kind of customer service definitely enhances the overall experience, and we feel confident that our feedback will contribute to further improvements at the resort.
Dream of Zanzibar is a decent hotel, but it falls far short of a 5-star standard in many areas. Its basically a 3 star hotel sold for 5 stars.
Rooms: While the rooms are nice at first glance, they lack basic attention to detail. There are no amenities provided, the bathrooms feel bare and outdated with yellowed towels, and the lighting is tied to noisy fans. These are not the standards expected of a 5-star hotel, especially considering the high rates we paid.
Dining Area: The dining experience was disappointing. The furniture was dirty, the atmosphere felt like a cafeteria, and the projector lighting added to the uninviting vibe. It was far from the elegance or charm of a true 5-star dining space.
Reception Area: The design of the reception area was baffling. It connects directly to a sauna, creating an unwelcoming and poorly thought-out layout.
Game Area: The game area lacked any energy or liveliness. Adding happy hours, music, or activities could have made it more appealing, but instead, the area felt completely dead.
Food: The food was very average, with few options, and certainly not on par with what one would expect from a luxury hotel.
Entertainment: There was no entertainment offered during our stay, which only added to the overall lack of atmosphere in the hotel.
Location & Beach: The location is extremely remote, with nothing nearby. The beach is not swimmable, which is a major letdown given the stunning beaches Zanzibar is known for. If youâre looking for a lively area or pristine beach, this is not the place.
The hotel was so underwhelming that we actually left for two days to stay at another hotel, despite still paying for our stay at Dream of Zanzibar. Surprisingly, the management didnât even ask why we chose to leave or make any effort to address the issues we faced.
Overall, this hotel lacks charm, character, and the standards expected of a 5-star property. Having stayed in true 5-star hotels in Zanzibar, we know how much better the experience can be. At nearly $500 per night, this was deeply disappointing and not worth the cost.
The only positive aspect was the staff, who were understanding of the hotelâs shortcomings and tried their best to help. Special thanks to Manager Nguele and Hassan for their efforts.
Unfortunately, we will not return to Dream of Zanzibar. There are far better options on the island that deliver genuine luxury and...
Read moreSo stay at this resort for my partners 50th Birthday and all I can say is wooow an amazing resort looks incredible even if a little on the small side compared to many other resorts, but itâs VERY clean and tidy, they welcome you so well and we had the luxury of the best room in the hotel with incredible sea / pool views outstanding.||The food here was amazing and delicious discovering so many beautiful dishes. I was slightly worried how the food was going to be cooked etc with gave stomach issues with bad food on previous holidays but zero issues here everything was perfect.||The staff are sooo friendly and nice other than one member of staff we had to report to reception for being very rude and horrible to us while on our stay called happiness, her name definitely did not match up to her personality. ||The only reason I would not give this review a 5* for the following 2 reasonsâŠ||First of all lack of entertainment at the resort, and this is just our own personal view there was zero music around the pool all day long every day not even some gentle background music would be amazing if that was the case, and zero daytime entertainment there was a board saying pool yoga or a game from 11am for 30mins but half the time it never happened I think maybe once in 14days we were there. And as stated no music so itâs a very sterile atmosphere, but some people may like that but we spoke to virtually all guests staying and they seem to all have the same opinion. Evening entertainment was again limited to 3-4 nights each week for 1 hr to a local band or local dancing etc which was lovely but that was it all other days there is nothing on in the evening.||Second reason sort of combines with first reason the location of the resort is very remote and nothing for miles near by so due to lack of any entertainment on resort you cannot walk from the resort to nearby bars or restaurants for entertainment as there are none anywhere nearby you have to pay for a taxi 50usd to go to the nearest town for entertainment in evening if you want anything like that.||If the resort had this entertainment side sorted especially given The location with lack of options near by then this would definitely be a 5* review as everything...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Dream of Zanzibar nestled on the island Zanzibar and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality that made me feel right at home.
The hotel itself is beautifully designed, blending modern luxury with authentic African touches. My room was spacious, clean, and offered stunning views of the ocean. Every detail, from the comfortable bed to the locally crafted décor, was thoughtfully curated to enhance my stay.
One of the highlights was the incredible service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure all my needs were met, always offering assistance with a friendly and professional demeanor. They were also very knowledgeable about local attractions and helped arrange guided tours and excursions that allowed me to explore the rich culture and natural beauty of the region.
The hotelâs restaurant was another standout. The cuisine was a delightful fusion of local flavors and international dishes, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the chance to sample traditional African dishes, which were bursting with flavor and presented with great care.
In terms of amenities the hotel offers everything you could want for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The pool area was a tranquil oasis, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. The spa services were exceptional, offering treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated.
For those looking to experience the wonders of Africa in comfort and style, I highly recommend [Hotel Name]. Whether youâre there for a safari, a beach getaway, or simply to soak in the local culture, this hotel offers the perfect balance of luxury and authenticity.
Big thanks to...
