F-Zeen Boutique Hotel Zanzibar — Hotel in Unguja

Please beware of the reviews here for this hotel--they do NOT fairly reflect the nature of this hotel or its surroundings. For most of us, a "boutique" hotel lays claim to being modern, chic, updated, and well apportioned. Instead, this hotel is outdated, threadbare, pretty basic, and surrounded by nearby beach covered by rotting seaweed and plastic garbage. We stayed for three days, two nights in October. For a rather expensive price, we were given a basic room, with no furniture other than beds and side tables and a bathroom in which every fixture was old, patched, and creaky (as in the toilet dribbled water all night, the shower did not drain correctly, and the shower curtain had been removed and only the hooks were left, etc). We were also disappointed that the beds were not covered by mosquito nets--instead, there was a net the was let down at night the covered the entry to the bedroom from the arrival hallway (one assumes that the mosquitoes know not to congregate in the bedroom but only in the hall and bathroom?). In addition, both the door to the room and the bathroom door did not close correctly and only did so if the locks were turned. Taken together, the room was basic, and the bathroom grim. Hardly boutique material. As for breakfast (provided with the room), the food was fine--there was a small, tired fruit plate, a basket of bread/pastry/muffins (homemade but nothing special), the eggs were okay, and the coffee appeared to be instant poured from a carafe. More disturbing was the constant presence of cats--meowling at diners, standing up on their backlegs against diners legs demanding to be fed, and then jumping up on the tables to eat the food as soon as you walked away. Further, flies hovered around the tables and food--altogether not very appetizing. Given that that the food/restaurant is mediocre, know that there are NOT a lot of nearby restaurants so one is rather dependent on this one.... On the positive side, the grounds of the hotel are lovely: well cared for and full of flowering trees and plants. Very nice. The pool is large and quite nice--with a view of the sea. It could definitely be kept cleaner. And the beach: the hotel is indeed right on the beach, and the beach in front of the hotel is kept clean and raked. The problem is, to either side of the hotel's beach, the beach quickly becomes caked with old, rotting seaweed, and plastic garbage. The closer you get to the nearby village, the worse this becomes. Visitors should also be aware that while other beaches here on Zanzibar stretch for very long distances, the beach here at Uroa is not very long (can be walked in some 20 - 30 minutes max) and is blocked at either end by rocky promontories. In summary, we found this a very B- hotel, with mediocre food, and a not very nice beach. You can do far better, for less, elsewhere...

My fiancé and I recently celebrated our honeymoon at the hotel, and it was an amazing experience. From the moment we arrived, we were given an impeccable service that made our stay unforgettable.

Upon our arrival, the warm and welcoming Oscar greeted us with genuine smiles and congratulations. The exceptional service began right at check-in. During our stay we were surprised with an offer for a massage each. This thoughtful gesture set the tone for the rest of our stay and immediately eased the stress of our experience at 2 different hotels prior to that 😣.

The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated with romantic touches, it featured a stunning view that added to the magic of our honeymoon: Oscar had kindly upgraded us! Fresh flowers were thoughtfully placed around the room.

3 of the highlights of our stay were the exquisite couples' massage, the coconut water surprisingly brought to us while we were chilling at the beach and our last dinner at the hotel. Oscar and his team had decorated a separate area just for us and beautifully set a table so we could have a romantic dinner just the 2 of us. I literally cried. Random acts of kindness aren't that common these days.

Throughout our stay, every staff member we encountered was courteous and eager to make our experience special. It was clear that the staff genuinely cared about making our stay memorable.

The culinary delights at the hotel were another highlight. Each meal and cocktails were a great experience, from the delicious breakfast spread to the romantic dinners by candlelight.

In conclusion, the hotel provided us with a perfect honeymoon experience. The exceptional service and thoughtful touches made our stay truly special. We left with cherished memories. For any couple seeking a romantic and unforgettable getaway, F-Zeen is the ideal place (in the 2 weeks we were in Zanzibar, we did 2 other hotels prior to this one so we were able to form an opinion). Also. Ich habe 3 Sterne für das Hotel gegeben, was meiner Meinung nach gar nicht so schlecht ist. Und das Hotel selbst ist sehr gut - Lage am Strand direkt ist genial! Lage des Hotels insgesamt - sehr entfernt von allen möglichen Aktivitäten. Nicht einmal ein kleiner Laden in der Nähe. Ja, okay, am langen Strand paar kleine Restaurants und winzigen Souvenir-Scheunen. Das war's. Geschweige denn was ähnliches wie Bushaltestelle. Selbst wenn... ich würde mich nie im Leben in ein Dala-Dala freiwillig hinsetzen. Das Hotel besteht aus mehreren Bungalows, 1- und 2-Familien-Gebäude. Insgesamt 26 Wohneinheiten. Das wird platziert in einem wunderschönen Garten, sowas habe ich kaum gesehen! Sehr liebevoll gepflegt, sehr schön, duftend nach Frangipani-Blümen. Pool: nicht groß, aber gepflegt, sauber, mit dem klaren Wasser. Bei der Ebbe haben wir den Pool jeden Tag benutzt. Restaurant: im afrikanischen Stil, authentisch, offen. Strohwände und Strohdach, typisch leicht für das tropische Land. Nur bei dem starken Regen ein bisschen Pech, weil das Regenwasser durch läuft. Um die Sauberkeit wird gekümmert, meistens erfolgreich. Nur gegen fliegende Gäste wie Bienen und Wespen kann man wenig machen, die sind immer da. Aber das Personal bemüht sich um die Hygiene, die Speisen werden mit Frischhaltefolie bedeckt. Fliegen gibt es auch, aber in ganz kleinen Mengen, die sind nicht wirklich eindringlich. Zimmer: Bungalow 15. Hat mir gut gefallen. Die Aufteilung des Zimmers ist sehr bequem, insbesondere etwas separater Schlafbereich, getrennt vom Wohnereich durch ein Moskito-Vorhang, sah edel aus! Wie in alten Filmen über Kolonialzeiten! Bett sehr bequem, auf jeden Fall habe ich alle Urlaubsnächte gut geschlafen. Ein Bereich mit Sutzgelegenheiten, 2 Sessel+Couchtisch. Kein Kleiderschrank, was kein Wunder bei dem Klima ist, nur offene Regale, aber mit genug Platz. Kleiderbügel-Stange, wenig Kleiderbügel, 8 Stück. Kühlschrank klein, was nicht das Problem ist. Problem ist, dass er eindringlich laut ist, so dass wir ihn nach 2 Stunden ausgeschaltet haben. Haben wir aber abgesehen davon nichts vom Gebrauch. Kein TV-Gerät vorhanden. Das hat uns nicht im geringsten gestört. Am Eingang rechts befindet sich eine kleine Kommode, darüber ein Wandspiegel. Vor dem Bungalow befindet sich große Terrase mit Sitzecke, ein Highlight! Bad: renovierungsbedürftig! Zwar gut geräumig, aber echt - alles so alt! Duschvorhang muss dringend gewechselt werden. Dürftig ausgestattet, wenige Ablageflächen, gut so, dass wir einen großen Kulturbeutel immer mitschleppen. Die Dusch- und Handtücher wurden jeden Tag fleißig gewechselt, haben aber einen etwas unangenehmen komischen Geruch. Strand: das eigene Hotelstrand, wird jeden Tag fleißig gepflegt, nicht viele Liegen, was verständlich ist, weil nicht viele Gäste. Nur ein einziger Sonnenschirm aus landestypischen Materialien, man braucht die aber kaum, weil am Strand einege Palmen und Casuarinen-Bäume genug Schatten spendieren. Es gibt sogar eine Strandbar, kann aber nicht beurteilen, war nicht da. Essen: eigentlich lecker. Büffet-Form. Nicht einmal Magenprobleme. Im Großen und Ganzen einfaches Essen. Frühstück immer gleich - Joghurt in kleinen Bechern, Haferbrei, Bohnen mit Sauce, Kartoffeln, geschnittene geschmorte Pilze aus Konserven, Würstchen(schmecken nach Pappe), hartgekochte Eier oder live Cooking (Omelette, Spiegeleier). 1 Sorte Marmelade, Butter etwas spärlich, 1 Sorte Gebäck(Muffins), kleine Croissants, Pfannkuchen, Weißbrot. Kaffee geht so, wenigstens frisch gekocht, aus der Isolierkanne, so wie heiße Milch und heißes Wasser für den Tee. Abendessen: ein bisschen Abwechslung ist dabei. Suppe, alle waren lecker, nur Cremesuppen, 1 Mal Fischsuppe. 2-3 Beilagen, geschmortes Rindfleisch oder Hänchenfleisch, Fleischbällchen, geschmorter Fisch, live Cooking - Oktopusse, Thunfisch, Königfisch, Hänchen, 1 Sorte pro Abend. Salat auch in einer Ausführung. Desserts - Früchte( Ananas, Papaya, Jackfruit, Wassermelone, Passionsfrucht, Mango) alkes sehr lecker! Kuchen, 1-2 Sorten. Fazit: mit...
