Matemwe Ocean View Villas — Hotel in Unguja

I loved everything about Matemwe Ocean View Villas! I love how remote from all the zanzibar tourist attraction noise it is. It’s perfectly quiet, serene and beautiful.

I felt like I could truly breathe here. Laucin a the absolute legend of a host. He shared his Moroccan food with me from his family and the food portion sizes were HUGE and DELICIOUS!

Nowhere else compares in zanzibar for us. We even cancelled a reservation to stay an extra night and our only regret is choosing to go somewhere else for our last 2 nights.

Next time, we’ll have our entire stay here. My favourite part was swimming in the pool under nothing but the moonlight and stars above us. It was absolutely amazing.

I’m just sad my husband and I enjoyed it so much we forgot to take photos for a better review.

Trust me, if you’re tired of noise and want to fully unplug and recharge, this is the place to go. It’s so green, lush and private. Every introvert’s dream - no hotel staff upselling, party music, noisy neighbors. None of that. Just you and a peaceful oasis.

Yesterday we finished the first part of our month in Zanzibar, and left Matemwe Ocean View Villas… we were sad when we left. We can not recommend this little pocket of paradise enough! Laucin and his team could not have made us more welcome, and they went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Ocean Villa is the perfect secluded spot, just a few minutes walk from the softest, whitest sand my toes have ever touched. The food was delicious, the cocktails explosive, the garden was so green with beautiful plants, butterflies, dragonflies and an array of different sounds from nature. The pool was perfect in the tropical climate.

Laucin, the owner is so friendly and warm and seeing him around the garden and having chats here and there was a highlight of our stay.

During our recent stay at this family-friendly hotel, I felt like I hit the jackpot! From the moment we arrived, the owners treated me like old friends, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.

Let's talk about the food – it was out of this world! Every meal was a treat, with flavors that made our taste buds dance with joy. The chefs really know their stuff!

Our room was super cozy, with beds so comfy we didn't want to leave. And it was spotlessly clean, which is always a big plus in my book.
