Wow really in paradise here, but if you like luxury, TV, shopping, glitter and glamour don't come here. Wildlife all around and a complete chill zone, so don't expect superfast WiFi as that's not what life is about. The best powdery sand I've ever seen, but take coral shoes as there are some rocks. Enjoy fabulous freshly prepared food where they cater for vegetarians really well. Chill out and forget the world around an uncrowded and quiet pool. No TV on site so sports fans beware. ||Met loads of people and real interactions, just like it was before Internet and TV. Beds were all large double 4 posters with mosquito nets, we stayed in the older bungalows and had the sea breeze at night to keep us cool, although there are ceiling fans and a freestanding fan provided if needed. Hot water seemed a bit limited, but not a big issue for us. Loads of space, but just an open wardrobe. Not sure what the updated rooms look like. Happy to listen to the waves crashing at night as well as Bush babies squeeling in the trees. If you take a red light headtorch you will catch them jumping through the trees. A few monkeys come visit but are no bother as they are not fed so don't come right down out the trees, just want to eat the fruit. ||Food breakfast is the same everyday freshly squeezed passionfruit, a plate of fruit, egg of choice, toast, pancake and a variety of either cake or croissant. I'm sure this changes depending on the season.||Lunch is very reasonable and we chose the variety of wraps most days, delicious flavours and combinations and nothing was too much bother.||Water - bring a refill bottle with you as they have a daily deal for water where you can fill up as often as you like from the filtered water dispenser. ||Staff can book trips or you can use your own agent. We went to Stone Town which the staff organised, very reasonable...
Read moreThe only thing we saw from your hotel while walking quietly on the beach, on our 2nd day on the island, was your 3 dogs 50 m away from us, suddenly running in our direction, barking. Without any ground or provocation, they attacked my husband who got bitten first by your german shepherd and then your great dane, leaving him no chance but two big and deep wounds of 7x5 cm which put a sudden end to our vacation plans on day 2! No sun, no water, no walking, daily visits to the hospital for care and injections and probably a few more weeks recovery before the wound totally heals. And I don't mention the psychological shock and the fear of dogs that it will leave. It could have been kids playing around instead of us, and it could have been dramatic if your dogs had not decided to leave right after biting once. So I would have felt really bad leaving the island without taking the time to share our great experience with you and above all without congratulating you for your great sense of responsibility towards your guests and anyone passing by your hotel for a daily walk and crossing your dogs. I wonder how you can simply consider being the owner of guard dogs while, without any doubt, you gave them no education or proper socialization. In other countries your dogs would have been euthanized immediately but I wonder if we should not leave the same fate to irresponsible and unconscious dog owners like you. So count on us to use all the power of social media to leave as much feedback as we can and to make sure that people are fully aware of that they sign for when they book their stay in your hotel. PS : we thank your employee "Fasi", who saw all the scene from inside, for driving us immediately to the clinique and...
Read moreWe arrived in Zanzibar with no accommodation plans, expecting to simply "wing it" after arrival. We arrived on the island late in the day, and were ready for the cab ride across to the east shore even later (word to the wiser-than-us: be ready in advance with the mandatory Zanzibar Travel Insurance documents!!). We booked Mbuyuni Beach Village through a 3rd party online service, and received a confirmation. However, the booking was not processed completely due to the late hour. ||No problem! The helpful and drama-free management staff took us in, and provided us with a great unit (they're duplex-style, attached to the next unit by one wall) at the same nightly rate quoted by the 3rd party. This place is VERY relaxing, being in a more secluded and quiet area down the beach (south) from the bustling Paje Beach area. It's technically in Jambiani, and the setting -- with it's lush tropical jungle landscaping and beach strip nearly free of passing foot traffic -- feels more like a private compound. Someone(s) on the staff enjoys the Caribbean theme: the common area abounds with references to Bob Marley and easy going quotes and thoughts common to the laid back beach mindset. The cozy bar and restaurant are very welcoming, and we found it difficult to extract ourselves from this area even when it became clear that the staff was packing up for the night and we were the only patrons remaining! A wonderful breakfast was served in this same area in the morning. If you want a relaxing and quiet tropical beach Zanzibar experience, stay at Mbuyuni Beach Village -- and...
